  • Patent number: 7804386
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromagnetic control device for the opening and closing of a mechanical element, particularly a valve of an internal combustion engine. The positioning of the mechanical element in at least one position (open or closed) is achieved by the action of at least one solenoid (90) acting on a plate controlling the position of the mechanical element. The device has at least two gaps which are closed by the plate on the positioning of the mechanical element in at least one position, the plate being mounted to rotate such that the axis of rotation of the plate is between the two gaps. The device also has at least one permanent magnet (99b) to polarize the device such as to hold the plate in at least one position in the absence of current through the solenoid (90), said permanent magnet (99b) not being crossed by the principal magnetic flux (92) of the solenoid (90).

  • Patent number: 7188592
Abstract: A sensor of the position of a target is secured to an electromagnetic or electromechanical valve actuator of an internal combustion engine. The target is driven by a reciprocating translatory motion (f+, f?) in synchronism with that of the valve. The sensor uses an eddy current transducer, including two secondary coils connected in series opposition and a primary coil fed by a radio frequency current. The output signal of the transducer is sent to a phase locked loop synchronous detector. The coils are engraved or printed on a flexible film. The transducer is arranged in an external tube made of aluminum and includes an internal wall made of insulating material.

  • Patent number: 7111596
Abstract: The invention relates to a valve operating apparatus comprising a ferromagnetic device connected to the valve and displaceable on a course by which at one end the valve is in the closed position and at another end it is in the open position. The displacement command is performed by means of a first and a second electromagnet and of springs so that the device will be near to the first electromagnet for the closed position and near to the second electromagnet for the open position. Each electromagnet comprises a permanent magnet holding the device at the corresponding end of its course in the absence of current in the winding of the electromagnet. To change the valve from its open position to its closing position or vice versa, a defluxing pulse is applied to the winding of the second or of the first electromagnet opposing the effect of the permanent magnet, the change being carried out, after this pulse, by the sole action of the spring means.

  • Patent number: 7047919
Abstract: The invention concerns a valve operating device for an internal combustion engine, comprising a means connected to the valve and able to be displaced on a course by which, at one end of this course, the valve is in the closed position and at the other end of the course this valve is in the open position. The displacement command is performed by means of a first and a second electromagnet and spring means such that the means is near to a first electromagnet for the closed position of the valve and near to the second electromagnet for the open position of the valve. The first electromagnet is of the polarized type with a permanent magnet permitting the means to be held in the position corresponding to the closed position of the valve in the absence of current in the winding of this first electromagnet. The second electromagnet is such that this position is maintained for a non-zero current in the winding of this second electromagnet.
