Publication number: 20230413395Abstract: A rotating magnet heater for metal products, such as aluminum strip, can include permanent magnet rotors arranged above and below a moving metal strip to induce moving or time varying magnetic fields through the metal strip. The changing magnetic fields can create currents (e.g., eddy currents) within the metal strip, thus heating the metal strip. A magnetic rotor set can include a pair of matched magnetic rotors on opposite sides of a metal strip that rotate at the same speed. Each magnetic rotor of a set can be positioned equidistance from the metal strip to avoid pulling the metal strip away from the passline. A downstream magnetic rotor set can be used in close proximity to an upstream magnetic rotor set to offset tension induced by the upstream magnetic rotor set.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2023Publication date: December 21, 2023Applicant: Novelis Inc.Inventors: Antoine Jean Willy Pralong, Peter Knelsen, David Anthony Gaensbauer, Rodger Brown, Michael Kosmicki, David Michael Custers, Natasha Iyer, Robert Bruce Wagstaff, Alp Manavbasi, ChangOok Son, Duane E. Bendzinski, Rajeev G. Kamat, David Skingley Wright, Andrew James Hobbis, Christophe Besson

Patent number: 7205687Abstract: An electric motor, e.g., a linear motor, includes a cooling system, which may permit the dissipation of heat from the primary part of the electric motor in a simple but effective manner. The iron core and the coils may be surrounded by a potting compound that stabilizes one of the coils and the electrical leads of the latter so that channels are formed in the gaps of the iron core. A coolant, e.g., air, flows from a first flow chamber through the channels into a second flow chamber. The direct contact with the iron core, potting compound, and optionally with the regions of the coils that are not filled with compound produces effective cooling action, without having to forego advantages of stability provided by an encapsulated primary part.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2002Date of Patent: April 17, 2007Assignee: Etel SAInventors: Nicolas Wavre, Christophe Besson, Emmanuel Dominé, Frank Krauchi, Michel Napoli, Stéphane Pellegrini

Patent number: 6236125Abstract: A linear uniphase polarized electromagnetic actuator. The actuator includes a coiled stator and one part which is movable in the direction OX with the useful travel of Xc. The movable part is moved according to the current traveling in the coil and the direction of travel depends on the direction of the current. The movable part includes a yoke of soft magnetic material having at least one magnet coupled with the yoke. The magnet is partially set inside a cavity of the mobile yoke on the side of the stator poles at a depth e such that 0.1 L<e<0.9 L, where E is the distance measured perpendicularly to OX between the stator poles and the cavity end pole.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1999Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Assignee: Moving Magnet Technologies (S.A.)Inventors: Claude Oudet, Pierre Gandel, Didier Frachon, Christophe Besson
