  • Patent number: 6523613
Abstract: The present invention provides a hydraulically actuated valve adapted for use in downhole well applications that enables control of several hydraulic devices from a single control line. In one embodiment, the valve has a valve body defining an inlet and first and second outlets. A spring-biased piston is located within the valve body. A pressure responsive indexer engages the piston to move the piston between a first and second position. In its first position, the piston prevents fluid flow from the inlet to the first outlet. In its second position, the piston prevents fluid flow from the inlet to the second outlet.

  • Patent number: 6341652
Abstract: A system for preventing backflow of a fluid from one zone to another, e.g. from a lower wellbore zone to an upper wellbore zone. The system is deployed in cooperation with a tube, such as a tube utilized to protect electrical or optical signal transfer lines. A one-way check valve is deployed in the fluid flow path created by the tube to prevent the backflow of an undesired fluid along the tube. A separate feed-through allows for passage of the signal transfer lines.

  • Publication number: 20020000317
Abstract: A downhole string includes a liner and devices positioned outside the liner. One or more control lines extend from the liner devices along the exterior of the liner to one or more connectors that provide connection points inside the liner. The one or more connectors may include electrical connectors (e.g., direct contact connectors), inductive connectors (e.g., inductive couplers), optical connectors (e.g., fiber optic connectors), and hydraulic connectors. The one or more control lines may be electrical lines, fiber optic lines, or hydraulic lines. The downhole string may also be used with a cement protector during cementing operations to protect both the inside of the liner as well as the one or more connectors attached to the liner. The cement protector includes a sleeve that isolates cement from the inside of the liner during a cementing operation so that a liner wiper plug is not needed. The cement protector is engageable to a pulling tool that is attached to a running tool.

  • Patent number: 5771974
Abstract: In an offshore oil installation, the closure device (40) of a subsurface test tree placed in the blowout preventer stack on the seabed is made in a modular manner. More precisely, the closure device comprises a plurality of lengths (54,56') suitable for being placed in arbitrary order between a top element (50) and a bottom element (52). This arrangement makes it possible to place the connector (46) between the total shutoff valves (26) and the partial shutoff valves (28) of the blowout preventer stack, and to place the valves (42,44) of the closure device (40) in a closure length (54) that is situated beneath the partial shutoff valves (28). The two total shutoff valves (26) can thus be actuated regardless of the type of blowout preventer stack that is used.
