The drinking cups are situated at a level suitable for drinking, and the intermediate segments are situated at a level suitable for allowing the birds to pass through unhindered underneath them. The complete line system can be cleaned by means of flushing, and has no dead-end branches. Top edges (22) of the drinking cups (20) are advantageously fixed to vertically directed line segments (13). The water distribution system (1) is modular.
