Patent number: 7739198Abstract: A reward program directed to registering computer devices and their consumable parts via a computer network generates a unique key code value for each computer device. The key code is generated by a remote server in the computer network and may include appending a sequential counter to the serial number of the device being registered. The key code is then encrypted using a standard hash algorithm. The encrypted key code is saved in a device information database together with other device information and consumable part information related to the computer device. The encrypted key code is also returned to the computer device and saved in the device memory. The device information database is updated with the usage of consumable part information for each registered computer device. Customers also register with the reward program and are assigned to one or more registered computer devices.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2006Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Christopher A. Adkins, Israel Bautista, Jonathan M. Gumaroy, Michelle Medina

Patent number: 6871926Abstract: A method of estimating an amount of ink contained in an ink reservoir includes the steps of determining a cumulative actual ink drop count of ink drops expelled from the ink reservoir; and determining an evaporation amount associated with the ink reservoir, wherein before a time threshold the evaporation amount is ignored, and upon reaching the time threshold the evaporation amount is used to compensate for an evaporation loss for the ink reservoir by adjusting the cumulative actual ink drop count to form an evaporation compensated drop count.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2003Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Christopher A. Patent number: 6830399Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for compensating for media indexing errors in a printing device. In one embodiment, the method comprises identifying a desired amount by which the print receiving medium should be indexed in order to print at the next location for the image being printed. The method further comprises determining an ideal indexing command for causing the indexing command based upon a compensation factor in order to compensate for imperfections in the indexing system. In this embodiment, the ideal indexing command is adjusted only once per indexing of the print receiving medium by the desired amount, and the adjusted ideal indexing command is utilized to move a roller and to index the receiving medium by the desired amount in order to print at the next location for the image being printed.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2003Date of Patent: December 14, 2004Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Christopher A.
