Publication number: 20140340407Abstract: A technique is provided for a graphical user interface on a computer. The technique includes receiving messages individually corresponding to resources being monitored, displaying rows in a table, and generating bar graphs of the messages respectively corresponding to the resources in the rows. Each of the bar graphs displays a color coded scheme to visually distinguish severity of the messages in each of the rows for the resources. The bar graphs display the severity of the messages for one resource per the given row without requiring user intervention to view severities of the messages displayed by the color coded scheme, without requiring user intervention to view a total number of messages for the given row, while maintaining a same row height regardless of the total number of messages for the given row, and without changing a table size including a table height and a table width of the table.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2013Publication date: November 20, 2014Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Rolando Perez, Christopher A. Publication number: 20120330646Abstract: A computer system and method where text is recognized from a real world image, and this recognized text is used as input data for a processing program selected by a user. A computer system and method where text is recognized from a real world image, and contextual information is used in conjunction with the text to develop a semantic denotation of the recognized text. The contextual information may include GPS location data. The contextual information may include previous images, captured shortly prior to the image with the recognized text. A computer system and method wherein text is recognized from a real world image, then normalized to be in the plane of the image, then translated and then the translated text is made into an image that is anti-normalized and inserted into the original image (or an image similar to the original image). In this way, the translated text will appear realistically in place of the original untranslated text of the real world image.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2011Publication date: December 27, 2012Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Rajiv Augusto Santos Galvao de Andrade, Lucas Goncalves Franco, Christopher A. Publication number: 20040133893Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing environment variables of a user process in an information handling system having a plurality of simultaneously running threads of execution. Thread-level set and get functions invoked by a subject thread are defined to manage environment variables of the subject thread at the thread level rather than at the process level. In response to a request to set the value of a thread-level environment variable, a thread-level set function determines whether a thread-specific environment has already been created for the subject thread. If so, the set function inserts the thread-level environment variable in the thread-specific environment. Otherwise, the set function creates a thread-specific environment and inserts the thread-level environment variable in the newly created thread-specific environment.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2003Publication date: July 8, 2004Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Nicholas Carbone, Gary R. Patent number: 6055542Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for finding information of interest within a particular Web page. A user creates an interest profile, which is stored with the user's browser. An interest profile may be as simple as a list of key words, or may be more complex, including data such as relative importance weights and boolean expressions. Once an interest profile is created, it may be used on any Web page to sort the information on the page according to the user s interests. Information may be sorted by line, paragraph, section, or any other defined scope. Once sorted, the information is displayed to the user as a series of links to the actual points of interest within the original page.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1997Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Christopher Robbins Nielsen, Ricky Lee Poston, Stephen Gray Stair, I-Hsing Tsao

System and method for controlling the downloading and display of an animated sequence from a network
Patent number: 6049342Abstract: The present invention is a system, method, and computer readable medium for controlling the downloading and display of animated sequences from a server to a client. A user chooses which, if any, animated sequences to view on a Web page. Before downloading a graphics file associated with a particular Web page, the server checks the file to determine if it contains any animated sequences. If the graphics file contains an animated sequence, the server only downloads the first graphic image of the animated sequence. This first graphic image is presented as a static image to the user. By only downloading the first graphic image, download time is reduced and less memory and disk space is used in the client. The user views the static image presented on the screen, and then determines if he wishes to view the entire animated sequence. If so, the user indicates that he wishes to view the entire animated sequence.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1997Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Christopher Robbins Nielsen, Ricky Lee Poston, Stephen Gray Stair, I-Hsing Tsao -
