  • Publication number: 20080169157
Abstract: A system for lubricating a crankshaft lip seal having wear surfaces with a lubricant used with the crankshaft. The system includes a compressor housing portion, wherein the lip seal secured in the compressor housing portion for engagement with the crankshaft and a structure in the compressor housing portion for adequately providing lubricant to the lip seal surfaces. In a preferred embodiment the structure includes a bore having a reservoir for maintaining the lubricant in contact with the lip seal and a manner for controlling the amount of the lubricant in the reservoir.

  • Publication number: 20040113369
Abstract: A crankshaft for use in a compressor that incorporates a lip seal includes a first material forming the crankshaft, an area on the crankshaft that engages the lip seal, and protection for the crankshaft from wear due to frictional contact with the lip seal. The protection includes a secondary material added to the crankshaft causing a hardened surface of the crankshaft at the area. The protection is preferably in the form of a wear sleeve on the crankshaft. The wear sleeve is formed from a second material which wears less than the first material while in contact with the lip seal and the wear sleeve is formed separate from the crankshaft and removable for replacement.

  • Patent number: 6698232
Abstract: A compressor oil diversion and collection system used in a compressor having a housing, a crankshaft having shaft seals, refrigerant and a compression device for compressing the refrigerant. The system includes a shaft sealing mechanism that uses a lubricant for preventing compressor refrigerant from leaking out of the compressor housing and has a space where the lubricant collects. A diversion mechanism is deployed for directing excess amounts of said lubricant from the space to a receiver for receiving the excess amounts of said lubricant from the diversion mechanism. The receiver may be in the form of an internal cavity which includes a removable cartridge located in the cavity for collecting the excess amounts of said lubricant, an external collection reservoir or an external drainage tube.

  • Patent number: 6220749
Abstract: Self-adjusting apparatus for sensing the temperature of a body that is subject to displacement. An elongated probe having an electrical sensing element at its distal end is slidably contained in a hole passing through a threaded housing. A close running fit is provided between the housing and the probe so that it can move only axially in the hole. A stop is mounted on the probe between the bottom wall of the housing and the distal end of the probe. A spring is coiled about the probe so that it acts to bias the probe into contact with the body when the housing is threaded into a support member.
