Publication number: 20240102811Abstract: A first input to a mobile device indicates a first navigation destination at a first level of specificity. The mobile device initiates navigation towards a first location corresponding to the first navigation destination. While navigation towards the first location corresponding to the first navigation destination is ongoing and before reaching the first location, in accordance with a determination that one or more first criteria are satisfied, the mobile device prompts for an input for determination a second location corresponding to a second navigation destination with a second level of specificity, the second level of specificity more specific than the first level of specificity. The mobile device receives a second input in response to the prompt. In accordance with a determination that the second input satisfies one or more second criteria, the mobile device initiates navigation towards the second location corresponding to the second navigation destination.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Kevin M. Patent number: 5971241Abstract: A multi-purpose folding carrier for carrying bulky cargo includes a frame, an upper member rotatably disposed on the frame and a cage rotatably and slidably disposed on the frame, the cage being configured to restrain forward, lateral and rearward movement of cargo placed therein. The upper member and cage are constrained for limited pivotal and/or slidable movement relative to the frame between extended carrying positions and collapsed storage positions. A locking element or brace is provided for securing the upper member in its extended carrying position. A series of straps are provided for securing articles, such as, for example, a cooler, on the cage as well as for securing the carrier to an automobile. The upper member may be provided with a pair of hook members which facilitate fastening the carrier to an externally mounted spare tire.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1998Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: R.A. Allen Company, Inc.Inventors: Alexander R. Allen, Christopher B. Allen, Gordon R. Allen, Richard A. Allen

Patent number: 5836492Abstract: A foldable carrier that is mountable upon a motor vehicle having an externally-mounted spare tire and brake light support assembly includes rotatably connected frame, a carrying member, and a supporting member. The carrying and supporting members are constrained for limited rotational movement relative to the frame between an operational position and a stored position. The carrying member has a pair of carrying arms, a connecting member and a pair of inwardly extending feet. The feet, the connecting member and a portion of the carrying arms disposed between the feet and connecting member form a substantially C-shaped opening that permits the carrier to be mounted on the vehicle about the spare tire without interferring with the brake light support.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: R. A. Allen Company, Inc.Inventors: Richard A. Allen, Alexander R. Allen, Christopher B. Allen

Patent number: 5731573Abstract: A pocket tide calculator is described which predicts tide times and moon phases in a visual display which gives the semi-diurnal tide times in any given day of the month and can be readily set for the following month. This device automatically leaves out the high or low tide which is alternately missing every 7.5 days. This invention incorporates a compressed time scale when compared with a normal 24-hour clock face which enables a concise display of the semi-diurnal tide cycle.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1996Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Inventors: Richard A. Allen, Christopher B. Allen, Alexander R. Allen

Patent number: 5598960Abstract: A foldable carrier that is mountable upon a vehicle includes rotatably connected frame, carrying, and supporting members. The carrying member is constrained for limited rotational movement relative to the frame between a carrying position and a stored position. A locking element, including a latch means and an arm means, positively locks the carrying member in its extended operational position, thus preventing collapse of the carrier after it is in use. Bicycles and other items are secured to the carrier using a tie-down system including either strap securing elements positioned on the ends of the carrying members arms or a series of mounting elements slidably positioned on the arms of the carrying member.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: February 4, 1997Inventors: Richard A. Allen, Christopher B. Allen, Alexander R. Allen

Patent number: 5331722Abstract: A method and apparatus involving a mounting system for securing a carrier for carrying one or more bicycles on a motor vehicle. The mounting system, which is connected to both the motor vehicle and the carrier, includes a strap and a tensioning assembly that is connected intermediate the ends of the strap. In one embodiment, the tension assembly includes a frame, a slidable member and a compression spring that is positioned between the frame and slidable member. In another embodiment, the tension assembly includes a frame, a slidable member and a tension spring that is positioned between the frame and the slidable member. As the strap is tightened for securing the carrier to the motor vehicle, the tension assembly maintains the strap in tension when the strap would otherwise become slack due to jarring of the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1992Date of Patent: July 26, 1994Inventors: Alexander R. Allen, Richard A. Allen, Christopher B. Allen

Patent number: 5054628Abstract: A folding carrier that is mountable upon a generally planar member includes a rotatably connected frame and carrying member. The frame is a substantially U-shaped member having a pair of legs and a back, each leg having a stop. The carrying member, which is also a U-shaped member, is constrained for limited rotational movement relative to the frame between a carrying position and a stored position. In its stored position, the carrying member is in a side-by-side relationship with the frame and inclined backwardly toward it. When in its extended position, the carrying member is substantially perpendicular to the planar member upon which the carrier is mounted. The carrying member bears against the stops of the frame to prevent further rotation beyond the preferred carrying position. Frictional elements that are mounted on the frame and carrying member engage the generally planar member and prevent unwanted movement of the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1991Date of Patent: October 8, 1991Inventor: Christopher B.
