Publication number: 20190276793Abstract: A 3D printer may precisely control deposition of diffusible chemical signals in different spatial regions of a solid polymer structure, in such a way that the concentration and spatial distribution of each diffusible chemical signal in each spatial region of the structure is independently controlled. A hydrogel containing genetically engineered, living organisms may be applied to a surface of the solid polymer structure. The living organisms may be single-celled organisms, such as bacteria. The diffusible chemical signals may diffuse out of the solid polymer structure and into the hydrogel, and may control gene expression of genetically engineered cells in different spatial locations in the hydrogel. Thus, gene expression of genetically-engineered cells in a hydrogel may be controlled on a region-by-region basis, by precisely controlling the position and concentration of diffusible chemical signals that are initially embedded in a solid structure adjacent to the hydrogel.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2019Publication date: September 12, 2019Inventors: Christoph Bader, Rachel Smith, Sunanda Sharma, Dominik Kolb, Neri Oxman

Patent number: 10259164Abstract: An unorganized point cloud may be created by an optical 3D scanner that scans a physical object, or by computer simulation. The point cloud may be converted into binary raster layers, which encode material deposition instructions for a multi-material 3D printer. In many cases, this conversion—from point cloud to binary raster files—is achieved without producing a 3D voxel representation and without producing a boundary representation of the object to be printed. The conversion may involve spatial queries to find nearby points, filtering material properties of the found points, looking up material mixing ratios, and dithering to produce binary raster files. These raster files may be sent to a multi-material 3D printer to control fabrication of an object. A user interface may display a preview of the object to be printed, and may accept user input to create or modify a point cloud.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2017Date of Patent: April 16, 2019Inventors: Christoph Bader, Dominik Kolb, Neri Oxman, James Weaver

Patent number: 9633016Abstract: A system and method for searching and playing multimedia content on a social network portal is disclosed. The system and method includes hosting a social network portal of a user, wherein the social network portal displays information of the user. The method further includes integrating, on the social network portal of the user, a multimedia controller. A selection or mouse-over of the multimedia controller initiates and controls the playback and selection of a multimedia item on an integrated multimedia player. The method also includes enabling a user to simultaneously navigate the social network portal and stream content via the integrated multimedia player. A user can also search for or request multimedia content via the multimedia controller and player.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2012Date of Patent: April 25, 2017Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Vivek Paul Gundotra, Ajmal Arshan Asver, Christopher Bader-Wechseler, David Gary Besbris, William M. Publication number: 20150304268Abstract: Technology is directed to a social networking application for sharing secrets anonymously. The social networking application receives a message from a user, anonymizes the message to generate a secret and shares the secret with other users. The other users cannot know who posted the secret. A message can include multimedia content such as a text, an image, an audio, a video or a combination thereof. The secrets are displayed in a graphical user interface (GUI) as secret GUI components. A secret GUI component displays the secret in a particular format. In one example, a text of the secret is superimposed on an image or a background color of the secret in the secret GUI component. The secret GUI component includes GUI elements using which users can “love”/“heart”/“like” a secret and/or comment on the secret. The secret GUI component can display author-viewer relationship information or a location information of the author.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 3, 2014Publication date: October 22, 2015Inventors: David Byttow, Christopher Bader-Wechseler

Patent number: 8862679Abstract: Technology is directed to a social networking application for sharing secrets anonymously. A user can share content (“secret”) with other users of the social networking application anonymously. The other users may not know who posted the secret. A secret can include multimedia content, e.g., text or an image. Users can “love”/“heart” and/or comment on a secret. The social networking application assigns an unique avatar to each of the users who comment on a secret. In some embodiments, the avatars are assigned on random basis. An author of the secret is assigned a specific avatar. In some embodiments, authors of any of the secrets are assigned the same specific avatar. Each of the comments is displayed with an avatar assigned to the user who posted the corresponding comment. The avatars can also be assigned based on a theme, occasion, etc.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2014Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Assignee: Secret, Inc.Inventors: David Byttow, Christopher Bader-Wechseler

Patent number: 8595016Abstract: A system for accessing content maintains a set of content selections associated with a first user. The system receives first original content from a first content source associated with a first one of the content selections associated with the first user. The system applies, to the first original content, a first rule (such as a parsing rule) that is specific to the first one of the content selections, to produce first derived content. The system changes the state of at least one component of a human-machine dialogue system (such as a text-to-act engine, a dialogue manager, or an act-to-text engine) based on the first derived content. The system may apply a second rule (such as a dialogue rule) to the first derived content to produce rule output and change the state of the human-machine dialogue system based on the rule output.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2011Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Angle, LLCInventors: James D. Van Sciver, Christopher Bader, Michael Anthony Aliotti, David Carl Bong

Publication number: 20020078091Abstract: A target document having a plurality of features is summarized by collecting contextual data external to the document. On the basis of this contextual data, the features of the target document are then weighted to indicate the relative importance of that feature. This results in a weighted target document that is then summarized.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2001Publication date: June 20, 2002Inventors: Sonny Vu, Christopher Bader, David Purdy
