  • Patent number: 10511960
Abstract: A method and apparatus for paging a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in a CELL_PCH and URA_PCH states are disclosed. A WTRU may send an indication of an enhanced paging channel (PCH) capability of receiving a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) in CELL_PCH and URA_PCH states, for example, in a CELL UPDATE message, a URA UPDATE message, or a UTRAN MOBILITY INFORMATION CONFIRM message. A drift radio network controller (DRNC) may receive an indication whether the WTRU has an enhanced PCH capability from a serving RNC and page the WTRU based on the indication. An RNC may page the WTRU over both an HS-DSCH and a PCH/secondary common control physical channel (S-CCPCH) if a WTRU capability is not known. The WTRU may monitor both an HS-DSCH and a PCH/S-CCPCH. The WTRU may configure reception over an HS-DSCH based on the capability of the SRNC or configuration from the network.

  • Patent number: 10039085
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for wireless transmission using multiple uplink carriers are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may transmit via a primary uplink carrier data, pilot and control channels for uplink transmissions on both uplink carriers, and transmit a data channel and a pilot channel via a secondary uplink carrier. Alternatively, the WTRU may transmit via a primary uplink carrier data, pilot, and control channels for uplink transmission on the primary uplink carrier, and transmit via a secondary uplink carrier data, pilot, and control channels for uplink transmissions on the secondary uplink carrier. Each uplink carrier may be associated with at least one specific downlink carrier such that the WTRU applies control information received on a downlink carrier to uplink transmissions on an uplink carrier associated with the downlink carrier on which the WTRU receives the control information.

  • Patent number: 9801161
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing control information for multi-carrier uplink transmission are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may set a happy bit for enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) transmissions on each uplink carrier considering aggregated transmission capability over all uplink carriers. The happy bit is set to “unhappy” if the WTRU is transmitting as much scheduled data as allowed by a current serving grant, the WTRU has enough power available to transmit at a higher rate, and total E-DCH buffer status (TEBS) requires more than a pre-configured period to be transmitted with a current effective data rate aggregated over all uplink carriers. The WTRU may send scheduling information including power headroom measured on the anchor uplink carrier and/or power headroom measured on the supplementary uplink carrier. For power headroom measurements, the WTRU may initiate a short-lived dedicated physical control channel loop on the supplementary carrier.

  • Patent number: 9801077
Abstract: A method and apparatus of performing discontinuous reception (DRX) and downlink inter-frequency and inter-radio access technology (RAT) measurements in CELL_FACH state are disclosed. While in DRX mode, a wireless transmit/receive unite (WTRU) may perform inter-frequency and inter-RAT measurements in a measurement occasion that fall into a DRX period. The WTRU may take the measurements on first predetermined number of frame in which a DRX frame would coincide after a last reception frame if DRX operation was ongoing. The WTRU may periodically wake up for downlink reception in CELL_FACH state in accordance with common DRX pattern that is common to all WTRUs in a cell or may wake up from DRX upon reception of the order and receiving a common traffic.

  • Patent number: 9781735
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for mitigating in-device interference are described. The methods may include an in-device interference event (e.g. an interference situation), and the processing of events may depend on the priority of the technologies. A handover to another frequency or radio access technology (RAT) may occur in case a co-existing technology may be activated. The network may signal to the device a list of frequencies or RATs that it may be allowed to measure and handoff to. A network may provide a scaling value that the device may use to speed up reaction to the interference. The device may apply a scaling factor to an “out of synch’ counter and/or the radio link failure (RLF) timer used for the RLF procedure. The device may apply different scaling factors for the measurements and time to trigger events. The device may trigger a report to the network requesting gaps for an alternate RAT.

  • Patent number: 9762356
Abstract: Systems and method are specified to improve the reception of UL transmission, for example in power or coverage limited situations. A WTRU may modify procedures to increase the available signal energy for reception at an eNB and/or to make more efficient use of the available signal energy at the receiver for processing UL transmissions. Example methods for increasing UL link coverage may include modifying HARQ timing (e.g., shorter HARQ), using longer TTIs, use of dedicated PUSCH allocations, use of new PUSCH modulations, enhanced reference signal design, UL macro diversity reception for PUSCH, utilizing protocol reduction techniques, ensuring in-order packet delivery, and/or utilizing a configuration for coverage limited/power limited modes of operation. The proposed methods may be applied individually or in any combination.

  • Patent number: 9749877
Abstract: A method and apparatus are used for detecting a radio link (RL) failure and a post verification process. A quality of a downlink fractional dedicated physical channel (F-DPCH) is monitored once a transmission on an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) has begun. It is determined whether the quality of the downlink F-DPCH is below a predefined threshold. If the quality is below the predefined threshold, then an occurrence of an RL failure is declared and a transmission over the E-DCH in a cell forward access channel (CELL_FACH) state is terminated. In a case of the post verification failure, E-DCH resources are released.

  • Patent number: 9668241
Abstract: Feedback information for multiple serving cells are transmitted on high speed dedicated physical control channel (HS-DPCCH). A slot format for transmitting feedback information is determined based on the number of configured secondary serving cells and whether multiple input multiple-output (MIMO) is configured in the serving cells. Spreading factor is reduced to 128 when two secondary serving cells are configured and MIMO is configured in at least one of the two configured secondary serving cells, or when three secondary serving cells are configured. The serving cells are grouped into feedback groups, each feedback group having one or more serving cells. Channel coding may be applied to feedback information for the feedback groups. The resulting encoded feedback information for the feedback groups is concatenated to form composite feedback information.

  • Patent number: 9661655
Abstract: A method and apparatus for uplink transmission over a non-contentious shared feedback channel are disclosed, wherein the parameters of the uplink transmission are determined by the parameters of a downlink transmission. A new uplink channel, called a physical shared uplink feedback channel (PSUFCH) is used for uplink transmission such as feedback information in response to a downlink transmission on a fast shared data channel. The content of the feedback information may be general, e.g. an ACK/NACK or a channel quality indicator (CQI). The PSUFCH is transmitted using power ramping that terminates upon reception of a downlink ACK (DLACK) from a Node-B. No ambiguity resolution is required due to the non-contentious and deterministic mapping of the uplink channel resources.

  • Patent number: 9661509
Abstract: Mobility states are defined in order to prevent excess signaling overhead and to conserve power on a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in a wireless network. The WTRU may determine that is operating in a low mobility state based on triggers related to the frequency of movement of the WTRU between network cells. The WTRU may change cells less frequently in a low or no mobility state than in a normal mobility state. Upon determining that the WTRU is in the low or no mobility state, the WTRU may configure mobility procedures associated with the low or no mobility state in order to conserve power and other network resources. The WTRU may coordinate its mobility state with the network.
