  • Publication number: 20260082492
Abstract: A strengthened foldable cover may include a cover member formed from a glass material. A hinge of the cover member defines a bend in the folded configuration of the foldable cover. One or more portions of the cover member that define the hinge may be strengthened differently than other portions of the cover member in order to facilitate bending of the cover member while providing damage resistance and minimizing distortion of graphical output from the display assembly.

  • Publication number: 20260079532
Abstract: A foldable electronic device may bend about a bend axis. The device may include a flexible display panel and a display cover layer overlapping the flexible display panel. The flexible display panel and the display cover layer may bend along the bend axis as the device is folded. The display cover layer may be formed from first and second glass layers. The first glass layer may have first and second planar portions joined by a third portion that bends about the bend axis. The second glass layer may have third and fourth portions that respectively overlap the first and second planar portions and that are separated by a gap overlapping the bend axis. The second glass layer may have a higher modulus of elasticity, lower compressive stress, and/or a greater thickness than the first glass layer to provide additional display protection.

  • Publication number: 20260082496
Abstract: A foldable electronic device may include a flexible display panel and a display cover layer that fold along a bend axis. The display cover layer may be formed from one or more glass layers. For example, a thin glass layer may form an outer surface of the display and may extend across the bend axis. The glass layer may exhibit a crack initiation load of at least 10 kgf to help prevent sharp objects from causing median cracks in the cover layer that might lead to failure. An ion exchange process may be used to impart regions of compressive stress in the glass and to further increase the force required to cause failure in the cover layer. To allow the glass to bend, the glass may have a bendable region with a thickness of 200 microns or less.

  • Publication number: 20250333352
Abstract: A glass sheet having asymmetric chemical strengthening is disclosed and described. The examples described herein are directed to a cover glass for an electronic device and other glass components that may be used as enclosure elements or may form an enclosure. Within the glass component, localized compressive stress regions may be formed on opposite sides of the glass component, which may help arrest or redirect propagating cracks or defects in the glass. The opposing compressive stress regions may also help maintain the overall flatness of the component while increasing strength and/or impact resistance of the component.

  • Patent number: 12421868
Abstract: A shaft for a gas turbine engine includes a composite tube including a plurality of grooves extending along a longitudinal axis of the shaft. The shaft has a load fuse mechanism that has at least one metallic coupling that has a plurality of splines extending along the longitudinal axis of the shaft. Each of the plurality of splines is received within and engages with a corresponding groove of the composite tube to form a preloaded interference fit between the load fuse mechanism and the composite tube. The at least one metallic coupling includes a first portion defining a first diameter and a second portion extending from the first portion along the longitudinal axis. The second portion defines a second diameter that is greater than the first diameter. The second portion has a smooth annular outer surface devoid of any splines.

  • Patent number: 12360555
Abstract: An electronic device display may have an inner layer with a pixel array for displaying images and an outer layer with an array of light modulator cells operable in transparent and light-blocking modes. Force sensor and touch sensor circuitry may be used to gather user input such as information on finger pressure or stylus input applied to a location on the display. A block of the cells may be placed into a transparent mode to form a transparent window based on information from the sensor circuitry. Images on the pixel array may be viewed through the window. In another mode of operation, images can be displayed by adjusting the cells of the light modulator layer and backlight illumination may be provided by the pixel array. A camera and a flash or other optical components may be overlapped by an adjustable shutter.
