Abstract: Presented are multipiece, surface-mount electrical boxes, methods for making/using such electrical boxes, and electrical systems equipped with such electrical boxes. A representative electrical box is a bipartite assembly that includes a backplate and a faceplate. The backplate includes a planar body that seats against a load-bearing support surface, such as an exterior face of a building wall. The faceplate includes a dome-shaped central hub with a mounting flange that projects outward from the central hub and mounts to the support surface. The mounting flange includes a recessed backstop that receives therein and surrounds the backplate. A set of flexible press-fit tabs may project from the backplate's planar body such that the backplate is slidably received in the recessed backstop and the press-fit tabs interference fit with the interior walls of the recessed backstop. The backplate and faceplate may each be integrally formed from a polymeric material as a single-piece structure.

Abstract: A solid siding mounting block, including a backplate configured to be mounted in either vertical application horizontally. The backplate has a nail flange, a perimeter wall extending substantially perpendicular to the nail flange, and one or more attachment bosses. A face block is formed from solid siding and configured to be attached to the backplate and is characterized by an absence of a snap ring. The backplate may be formed as a single piece or as a two-piece member, having a first piece and a second piece. One of the first or second piece has a tooth and the other of the first or second piece has a receiver. A two-piece electrical box having a first piece with one or more first holes and one or more receiver grooves. A second piece has second holes, which may be aligned with the first holes.

Abstract: A split block assembly includes a backplate with an outwardly projecting mounting flange that mounts to a wall structure such that the flange is interposed between a siding panel and the wall structure. The backplate includes first and second plate segments rotatable with respect to each other between an open position, whereat the first plate segment is spaced from the second plate segment, and a closed position, whereat the plate segments abut and thereby cooperatively define a hole that receives therethrough a fixture. A living hinge system is integral with and rotatably joins the two plate segments. The living hinge system includes a first living hinge adjoining the first plate segment and bending on a first axis, a second living hinge adjoining the second plate segment and bending on a second axis oblique to the first axis, and a flap extending between and joining the two living hinges.

Abstract: An improved mounting block has a base plate portion and a face plate portion. Base plate portion has an outer surface extending outward from a mounting surface and is selectively attachable to the face plate portion. One of the face plate portion and the base plate portion has a plurality of snap fit teeth formed thereon, and the other has a plurality of snap fit receivers, configured to selectively receive the snap fit teeth. Face plate portion may include flange flex grooves formed in an attachment flange, allowing walls to deflect independently from corners, such that the flange flex grooves allow the attachment flange to flex outward from the outer surface. Base plate portion may include alignment ribs extending outward from the outer surface, such that the flange flex grooves formed in the attachment flange interface with the alignment ribs formed on the base plate portion.

Abstract: A vent assembly, including a backplate having plurality of concentric cylinders arranged in an order of decreasing diameter, such that the concentric cylinders are separated by score lines and at least one of the cylinders is recessed from the backplate, and a vent flapper. The assembly may include a tube configured to attach to one of the cylinders and one or more tube stoppers to prevent the tube from being over inserted. The assembly may include a face plate, a tooth formed on the backplate, and a tooth receiver is formed on the face plate. The score lines may be dual-sided score lines. The assembly may include the vent flapper having one or more air intake openings formed within the vent flapper, such that the air intake openings allow air to flow both in and out.

The assembly may include a removable cover attachable to the vent flapper, or a tube opening and a vent flapper area, wherein the vent flapper area is at least 65 percent larger than the tube opening. The assembly may have air intake openings hexagonal. The assembly may include a tube configured to attach to one of the concentric cylinders, and the backplate may have a plurality of concentric cylinders arranged in decreasing diameter. The cylinders may be separated by dual-sided score lines and at least one of the cylinders is recessed from the backplate. The assembly may have a removable cover configured to block the openings for air intake formed within the vent flapper.
