  • Patent number: 5541566
Abstract: There is provided a core for a magnetic switch. The core has a plurality of metallic strips, either as a coil or as stacked plates. Each strip is separated from adjacent strips by an electrically insulating polycrystalline carbon layer. The high thermal conductivity of the polycrystalline carbon layer facilitates cooling of the core during operation of the switch, greatly increasing the efficiency of the switch and its operational lifetime.
