  • Patent number: 10650854
Abstract: A heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) medium has a heat-sink layer, a chemically-ordered FePt (or CoPt) alloy magnetic layer and a MgNiO intermediate layer between the heat-sink layer and the magnetic layer. The intermediate layer is a solid substitution crystalline alloy of the form (Mg(100-y)Niy)O, where y is less than 10 and greater than or equal to 0.5. The magnetic layer may be formed directly on the MgNiO intermediate layer, in which case the MgNiO intermediate layer functions as both a seed layer and a thermal barrier layer. The HAMR medium may also include an optional layer of crystalline “pure” MgO directly below or directly above the MgNiO intermediate layer. If the MgO layer is located directly above the MgNiO intermediate layer then the MgNiO intermediate layer functions primarily as a thermal barrier layer. The HAMR medium with the MgNiO intermediate layer provides a substantial improvement in corrosion resistance.

  • Publication number: 20200045897
Abstract: System and method for controlling an irrigation system using feedback from flow meters installed in an irrigation system are described. The systems and method allows for automatic detection of the number of flow meters and their relation to controls valves attached to an irrigation system and for precise and reliable fluid flow measurements. Typical water flows for the system are learned and then compared to current water flows to detect water leaks (i.e., high water flow), malfunctioning control valves and/or low water flow and subsequently trigger electronic alerts to the user when system malfunctions are detected.

  • Publication number: 20190286172
Abstract: A circuit that can be used to add a flow meter to an existing set of wires that connects a controller to an electric valve. The circuit does not require the need to run additional wiring from the controller to the valve and flow meter. The circuit creates pulses of current with a rate that is proportional to the flow, which are then transmitted to a receiver and converted to a flow measurement output to the user by a controller.

  • Patent number: 10276202
Abstract: A heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) medium has a rhodium (Rh) or Rh-based alloy heat-sink layer. The Rh or Rh-based alloy does not roughen when annealed and thus does not require an intermediate layer between it and the MgO seed layer for the recording layer, so the MgO seed layer can be formed directly on and in contact with the Rh or Rh-based alloy heat-sink layer. The Rh or Rh-based alloy heat-sink layer is formed on a seed layer or multilayer that allows the Rh or Rh-based alloy to grow with the desired face-centered-cubic (fcc) crystalline structure.

  • Patent number: 9824710
Abstract: A heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) medium has a multilayered or laminated heat-sink structure. The laminated heat-sink structure includes a first heat-sink layer and a RuAl—X thermal barrier layer between the medium substrate and the first heat-sink layer. The laminated heat-sink structure may include a second heat-sink layer may between the substrate and the RuAl—X thermal barrier layer. In the RuAl—X thermal barrier layer, X is selected from C and one or more oxides of Si, Ti, W, Zr and Hf. The HAMR medium with the laminated heat-sink structure reduces the amount of required laser current as compared to a similar HAMR medium with a conventional single heat-sink layer of the same thickness, while also slightly improving magnetic properties and recording performance.

  • Publication number: 20170060520
Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and methods for providing streaming, dynamically editable social media content, such as songs, music videos, or other such content. Audio may be delivered to a computing device of a user in a multi-track format, or as separate audio files for each track. The computing device may instantiate a plurality of synchronized audio players and simultaneously playback the separate audio files. The user may individually adjust parameters for each audio player, allowing dynamic control over the media content during use.

  • Publication number: 20150066780
Abstract: Among other things, contributors (also called teammates) can form teams to cooperatively create original media using electronic communication with a server. The cooperative creation of the original media occurs as a project and as working sessions within a project, defined within a user interface accessible to each of the contributors of the team. The contributors can communicate through the user interface. Security is provided against access by any other party to the original media and the process of cooperatively creating it.

  • Patent number: 8561151
Abstract: A mobile entitlements manager implemented on a mobile device stores the software entitlements belonging to a user of the mobile device. The mobile device communicates with client computers on which the user wishes to run software applications. Messages are exchanged between the client and the mobile device to enable activation, continued running, and to deactivate client applications in accordance with the entitlements available to the user. The mobile entitlements manager updates its entitlement information by communicating with a remote entitlements server, and informs the entitlement server of the status of programs running on clients in communication with the device. The entitlements manager handles entitlements for multiple applications and for multiple licensed entities, such as individual users, sites, client computers, or organizations.

  • Patent number: 6408351
Abstract: A peripheral coder/decoder (codec) that has low power consumption such that the peripheral codec facilitates bus-powered peripheral devices that utilize a codec. One such peripheral device is a modem. In the case of host-based modem, a host computer provides processing capabilities while a bus-powered peripheral device contains circuitry for analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversions as well as circuitry for interfacing to a transmission media. The bus-powered peripheral device is coupled to the host computer by a peripheral bus. In one embodiment, the peripheral bus is a Universal Serial Bus (USB) bus and the bus-powered peripheral device is a USB device. By being bus-powered, the bus-powered peripheral device does not require its own separate power source. A method for transmitting data over the peripheral bus using the host-based modem and the bus-powered peripheral device are also disclosed.
