Patent number: 9170114Abstract: A method is disclosed for collecting geographic data during game play. A game scenario includes an activity for the game player to perform. The game player may be given an incentive within the context of the game for performing the activity. The incentive may be of non-monetary, monetary or in-game value. Performing the activity within the context of the game directly or indirectly results in the generation of data that is collected and used for the purpose of updating, adding to or supplementing a geographic database.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2011Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: HERE Global B.V.Inventors: Kurt Brooks Uhlir, Michael V. Shuman, Christopher Dougherty

Patent number: 8755555Abstract: A set of adjustable and convertible headphones includes a headband, an adjustment member, and an earpiece. The adjustment member is connected to the headband by a hinge; earpiece has a channel receiving the adjustment member and is slidably connected to the adjustment member. Rotation of the adjustment member with respect to the headband is spring-loaded in only one direction. The adjustment member and the earpiece in combination include a detent mechanism for resisting sliding movement of the earpiece with respect to the adjustment member. The adjustment member may be completely removed from the channel, thereby disconnecting the earpiece from the headband. The earpiece may then be replaced by another ear covering (e.g., an earmuff, an ear protector, etc.) as desired. The replacement ear covering may include an audio speaker, for example an audio/earmuff combination earpiece.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2012Date of Patent: June 17, 2014Assignee: The Echo Design Group, Inc.Inventors: Christopher Dougherty, Steven D. Patent number: 8562439Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for facilitating development of computer games that depict or represent actual, real world geographic areas as part of the play scenarios of the games. A source database contains data that represent geographic features in a region including roads in the region. The data in the source database includes attributes suitable for use for providing navigation-related functions. In addition to providing data from the source database for navigation-related functions, data from the source database are also used to form a template database, wherein the template database represents an imaginary locale. The template database is provided for computer game development.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2004Date of Patent: October 22, 2013Assignee: Navteq B.V.Inventors: Michael V. Patent number: 7967678Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for facilitating development of computer games that depict or represent actual geographic locales or imaginary locales as part of the play scenarios of the games. A computer game factory system includes inventories of map data products, road models, 3D models, game shells, and game engines. Configuration parameters identify which components to select from the inventories to produce games for various different computer platforms. The selected components are combined with a geographic data API and geographic data tools to produce computer games.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2004Date of Patent: June 28, 2011Assignee: Navteq North America, LLCInventors: Christopher Dougherty, Kurt Brooks Uhlir, Michael V. Patent number: 7828655Abstract: A computer game depicts or represents actual or imaginary geographic locales as part of the play scenarios of the games. The computer game uses a map database that contains data that represent geographic features, such as roads, in a locale. A game engine program presents a game play scenario to a user via a user interface of the game. An application programming interface program accepts requests for data from the game engine program, accesses data from the map database, and provides the data in a suitable format to the game engine program for use in presenting the game scenario to the user.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2004Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Navteq North America, LLCInventors: Kurt Brooks Uhlir, Christopher Dougherty, Michael V. Patent number: 7814106Abstract: A method of facilitating delivery of advertising to users of mobile computing platforms is disclosed. A geographic database contains data entities that represent geographic features, such as roads, located in a geographic region. Advertising zones are defined within the geographic region. Associated with at least some of the data entities that represent geographic features are data that indicate in which of the advertising zones the represented geographic feature is located. Advertisers are allowed to associate advertising messages with the advertising zones. Users of mobile computing platforms are provided with geographically-related services that use the geographic database. As a user of a mobile computing platform travels in the geographic region, the location of the mobile computing platform is determined. The user of the mobile computing platform is provided with the advertising message associated with the advertising zone in which the mobile computing platform is determined to be located.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2006Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Navteq North America, LLCInventors: Matthew A. Publication number: 20090169613Abstract: The present invention provides compositions useful for the treatment of cancer that inhibit tumor stem cells through suppression of an activity or the expression of BORIS. The compositions target tumor stem cells through molecules that are specific to tumor stem cells. Specifically, the invention provides immunoliposomes specific to tumor stem cells that include nucleic acid compositions capable of eliciting the process of RNA interference of BORIS expression. Also provided are immunoliposomes specific to tumor stem cells that include anti-BORIS ribozymes, antisense oligonucleotides, decoy oligonucleotides or small molecule inhibitors. Methods of manufacturing, delivering, and use of such compositions in the treatment of cancer are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2008Publication date: July 2, 2009Inventors: Boris N. Patent number: 7092964Abstract: A method of collecting market research information is disclosed. A geographic database contains data entities that represent geographic features, such as roads, located in a geographic region. Advertising zones are defined within the geographic region. Users of mobile computing platforms are provided with geographically-related services that use the geographic database. As users of the mobile computing platforms travel in the geographic region, the locations of the mobile computing platforms are determined. Demographic information of the mobile computing platform is associated with the position of the mobile computing platform. A market research record identifies which of the mobile computing platforms are located within or passing through one of the advertising zones.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2002Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: Navteq North America, LLCInventors: Christopher Dougherty, Matthew A.
