  • Publication number: 20230288303
Abstract: The apparatus for testing the sharpness of a blade is arranged with a tape extending between a feeder spool and a receiver spool. The apparatus applies tension to the tape, and has a carriage arranged to bring the blade into contact with a stretch of the tape. The blade progressively makes a long-ways cut in the tape and, as it does, a measuring device detects the amount of force exerted for the cut to occur to determine whether the blade is sharp. A clamp locks the stretch of tape when in a straight line for contact with the blade, and has a main opening through which the tape moves longitudinally when driven between the spools A guide is arranged to help keep the stretch of tape in the straight line and has a main opening through which the tape moves longitudinally when driven between the feeder and receiver spools.

  • Patent number: 11425122
Abstract: A solution for circumventing censorship is disclosed. A first device connects to a first server hosted in a content delivery network (CDN). The CDN routes the first device's connection request to the first server. The first server responds by providing the first device with a configuration file that contains a plurality of second servers for the first device to access. The first device disconnects from the first server and hops between one or more of the plurality of second servers contained in the configuration file. By distributing the configuration file from a first server hosted in a CDN, the first device obfuscates the true endpoint of the connection. Thus, the first device obtains the configuration file without drawing the ire of censors. By hopping from server-to-server, the first device stays one step ahead of censors. Accordingly, a multi-prong approach to staying a step ahead of eavesdroppers, sniffers, and censors is described.

  • Publication number: 20210284685
Abstract: Methods for purifying a polypeptide from a composition comprising the polypeptide and at least one contaminant are described, which methods comprise the sequential steps of: (a) passing the composition through an ion exchange membrane, where the polypeptide and the membrane have opposite charge, at operating conditions comprised of a buffer having a pH sufficiently distinct from the pI of the polypeptide to enhance the charge of the polypeptide and a low ionic strength effective to prevent the shielding of charges by buffer ions, which cause the membrane to bind the polypeptide and the at least one contaminant, and (b) recovering the purified polypeptide from the effluent.

  • Patent number: 9694475
Abstract: A clamp suitable for clamping a handle from which a blade extends or a pair of scissors when the blade is being tested or sharpened. The clamp includes a first jaw, a second jaw and a releasable lock if the form of a latch and teeth. At least one of the jaws are able to swing with respect to the other jaw through a hinge mechanism. The first jaw comprises two outer padded parts and a central padded part. The outer and central padded parts are aligned. The central padded part is recessed such that a curved handle or pair of scissors can lay against all three padded parts when clamped. If a straight handle is clamped, the handle only contacts the outer padded parts. The second jaw also comprises padded parts which are inwardly angled for gripping.

  • Patent number: 7293451
Abstract: A sharpness tester for testing the sharpness of a blade. The tester has a blade holder 19 and a mounting arrangement 21, 22 for mounting a cuttable material 20. The blade holder 19 is mounted by a carriage 18 which is moveable on a track 14 so that the blade can move relative to the material 20 and contact the material. A linear distance measuring device and a force measuring device 21 enable the tester to determine the force required by part of the blade B to cut the material 20.
