    Abstract: To copy a copy protected DVD (32), and thereby subvert the copy prot-ection technique, a DVD drive (50) is controlled by a disc copying program (54) to access data at a level other than that at the user data level. For example, if it is the data frame (44) which is read, the DVD drive (50) is controlled to write a data frame (12) to a copy disc (52). During the copying process, the program (54) may be arranged to remove sector IDs and error detection codes from the read data frames (44) and to generate new sector IDs and appropriate ID error detection codes for the data frames (12) to be written to the copy disc (52). This circumvents any copy protection which has been incorporated in the identification data in a data frame of the original disc (52).

    Abstract: A boot incorporating techniques for making the process of tightening and loosening the laces of a boot more convenient for the wearer is disclosed. The boot may be provided with at least two independent lacing zones, the tensions of which are separately adjustable by the wearer. The zones may be secured by pulling on two laces, each of which tightens one of the two independent lacing zones. This arrangement allows the wearer to simultaneously tighten each zone, providing the wearer with the “feel” as though he or she is tightening a conventional single lacing zone boot. The laces may be simultaneously, yet independently secured by a lace lock at the upper and/or forward region of the boot. Slack may be created to facilitate loosening of the boot and easy removal of a foot from the boot by unhooking the lace from the lace guide without a corresponding distance of lace traveling through the lace lock. A release strap, graspable by the wearer, facilitates unhooking the lace.

The adjustment indicator may be included with a footbed that is removable from a binding base, e.g., that includes a foot engagement member to secure a rider's foot to the binding and board. A gliding board may include a channel for mounting a binding that is arranged in the board core so that no portion of the board core is located on top or bottom sides of the channel, and instead so the top and bottom reinforcement layers are located above and below the channel.

    Abstract: A passive needle guard includes a body having a cavity therein for receiving a syringe, and a shield. The body is slidable with respect to the shield between retracted and extended positions covering and exposing, respectively, a needle extending from the syringe, the body being biased towards the retracted position. Latch members extend from the shield that include catches for engaging mating catches on the body for holding the body in the extended position. During use, the needle extending from the syringe is inserted into a patient. A plunger is depressed to inject medication from the syringe, thereby deflecting the latch members to disengage the catches and release the body, whereupon the user may controllably retract the body to the retracted position. In the retracted position, cooperating detents on the shield and body engage one another, thereby substantially permanently covering the needle with the shield.

    Abstract: A method and system for neutralizing mines has a vehicle carrying fluid connected to a pump and cavitation pressure vessel that creates high pressure fluid. An actuator valve modifies the flow characteristics of the high pressure fluid to be pulsating at selectively different frequencies, pressures, and flow rate. Nozzles on the vehicle jet high pressure fluid therethrough and a framework on the vehicle orients the nozzles to direct the jetted flow of high pressure fluid downward and into ground under a roadway. An abrasive and/or explosive can be added to the high pressure fluid before it reaches the nozzles. The jetted flow from the nozzles can displace ground and exert pressure to detonate and cut mines and neutralize them on and under the roadway. Cavitation can be created in the jetted flow to increase the dynamic force of the jetted flow.
