  • Publication number: 20110088955
Abstract: A subterranean drilling system may include a drill string and a rotary drill bit coupled to the drill string. The rotary drill bit may include a bit body and a cutting element coupled to the bit body, with the cutting element being structured to rotate in response to torque applied to the cutting element. The system also may include a cam assembly coupled to the drill string, a cam follower assembly in contact with a cam surface of the cam assembly, and a torque-applying structure coupled to the cam follower assembly. The torque-applying structure may be configured to apply torque to the cutting element in response to relative rotation between the cam assembly and the cam follower assembly.

  • Publication number: 20100071127
Abstract: A patient transfer sled having a support structure including at least one air cushion partially disposed within at least one pocket, and a fluid passageway extending through the support structure into the air cushion. Systems for patient transfer that may include a support surface, such as a table, a patient transfer sled having at least one air cushion, and a source of pressurized air. Methods for moving a patient relative to a support surface include positioning a patient on a patient transfer sled having at least one air cushion, and inflating the air cushion with air to form a sheet of flowing air between the patient transfer sled and the support surface. The methods may be used, for example, to move a patient on an air film over a surface within a system.

  • Patent number: 5685876
Abstract: A device for pushing a scar in the perineal region of a patient so that the scar can be optimally positioned during radiation treatment of the rectal area of the patient. A base is positioned beneath a patient's legs as the patient lies on a radiation therapy support platform. A guide and support member extends upwardly from the base so that the guide and support member is positioned between the thighs of the patient. A slide member is supported by the guide and support member, with the slide member being constrained to slide back and forth along the guide and support member in a direction substantially parallel to the patient's legs so that pressure can be exerted on the patient's perineum by the leading end of the slide member. The slide member can be moved manually, and a retaining mechanism is provided for releasably locking the slide member in any selected position along its movement.

  • Patent number: 4679441
Abstract: A triaxial test cell and pressure balanced piston therefor that includes a housing containing a vessel wherein a test specimen is located, immerged in a confining fluid. The housing includes a passage wherein the piston is installed to slide so as to move an end thereof into the vesel, which passage includes an annular area formed intermediate therealong wherein a collar portion of the piston is fitted. The piston collar portion includes a face whose surface area is equal to the area of the piston end face that travels into the vessel, and the annular area above that collar upper face is connected by an open passage to that vessel. The piston and passage include appropriate ring seals for providing a pressure seal above and below the passage annular area and that annular area is separated by a pressure seal arranged around the piston collar, with the annular area below that collar vented to atmosphere.
