  • Patent number: 5704107
Abstract: An insulated door for a refrigerator or other appliance having an external panel of an open box configuration without integrally molded inwardly directed flange portions, a plurality of separately installed trim pieces arranged around an edge perimeter of the external panel, the trim pieces having a socket region for snap engagement with the edge of the external panel, and a flange portion extending therefrom inwardly. An inside liner is applied over the trim pieces and a gasket is applied around the edge of the inside liner captured between the inside liner and the trim pieces. The invention allows for the economical molding of the external panel and the assembly of the inside liner and gasket to the external panel before a foamed-in place operation to apply the inside insulation which will unitize the structure.

  • Patent number: 5269154
Abstract: A closure is shown for use with an ice dispensing apparatus having an ice chute operatively associated with a discharge opening. The closure includes a door case having a front wall of a size and shape corresponding to the opening and a rearwardly turned perimeter wall connected to the front wall and having an outwardly turned flange. An insulation core is disposed within the perimeter wall rearwardly of the front wall. A gasket engages the opening incident to the closure being in the closed position. A rear wall is provided for substantially covering the opening incident to the closure being in the closed position A resistance heater is positioned in the door case between the front wall and the insulation to prevent sweating of the closure.

  • Patent number: 5189888
Abstract: A field installable service kit is disclosed for foamed in place refrigerator stile heaters that do not provide adequate heat around the front of the cabinet, to prevent external condensation under hot and humid conditions. The kit includes a transformer which is mounted on the back of the refrigerator by a service technician and connected directly in line with the stile heater wire connection. The transformer steps up the voltage from approximately 115 volts to approximately 160 volts, thereby approximately doubling the wattage on the resistance heater wire.
