  • Patent number: 5708253
Abstract: An apparatus and method for computerized interactive control, measurement and documentation of are welding utilizing a single power source that facilitates continuous precision welding. Operational interactivity between the welding operations and the workpiece operations, in connection with predetermined optimum welding operational parameters, provides contemporaneous feedback of critical welding operational parameters to the welding operator, producing an alarm if welding is attempted outside a first predetermined range of deviation from optimum welding operational parameters and temporarily interrupting power to the welding operation if welding is attempted outside of a second predetermined range of deviation from the optimum welding operation parameters. A complete log of the welding operational parameters is stored for subsequent retrieval and display, providing training and evaluation of welding operators as well as verification of compliance with required welding practices and procedures.

  • Patent number: 5169065
Abstract: The present disclosure is a nozzle which is comprised of an inlet, an outlet, and an elongate cylindrical housing closed by heads or covers. Within the housing there is an elongate chamber means. Multiple plates extend transversely across the chamber means and are drilled with a number of holes to provide an adequate cross sectional area for a water flow or fluid flow through the chamber. There is an additional transverse plate with holes therein. A number of flexible bendable nylon strings are positioned so that the strings have ends, and the strings are positioned so that the ends are directed toward the outlet. Fluid flow is improved by reduction from highly turbulent flow to laminar flow to string line flow.

  • Patent number: 5154776
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a method and apparatus for removing sludge and reactive metallic deposits, primarily sodium, from a reaction vessel. The process involves circulating under an inert atmosphere a solvent which covers the reactive metal and which solvent removes sludge and other sediments in the vessel including greases, processed salts, etc. Preferably, the process is carried out at a slightly elevated temperature perhaps 120.degree. F. or more. Water or primary alcohols or a mix is added ratably to react with the reactive metal until it is completely removed. The discharge temperature is permitted to increase to perhaps 190.degree. F. and is preferably kept below 245.degree. F. to assure relatively easy handling of the solvent discharge. Recirculation is continued after cooling, sparging, settling to remove impurities picked up in the vessel and recirculation. An apparatus is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4880447
Abstract: The present disclosure sets forth a method and apparatus for adjusting the rate at which water is introduced as a cooling and decelerating fluid in mist form into a discharge vent for high velocity superheated steam. An optimum measure of water is determined so that the steam is decelerated to a velocity not lower than about 35% of sonic velocity. Moreover, air is educted into the steam flow to further enhance the cooling and deceleration of the steam which is then vented. By the introduction of air and water mist, the steam is cooled and decelerated, thereby avoiding formation of a sonic wave creating unwanted backpressure and avoiding creation of noise.
