    Abstract: Accessories of a medical device, such as a defibrillator, are described. The accessories reduce delays in treating or monitoring a patient by increasing the efficiency of using, and the ease of use of, the medical device. An adjustable kickstand is movable between a collapsed and extended position to recline the medical device. In the reclined position, a display of the medical device can be more easily viewed by the user. Storage bags can be coupled to the medical device to efficiently store accessories for use with the medical device. The stored accessories can be coupled to the medical device while the accessories are stored within the storage bags. A port guard can protect and shield a connection between a cable and a port of the medical device to prevent the cable (e.g., an ECG cable) from being disconnected from the port of the medical device.

    Abstract: A display (50) with enhanced image contrast contains an image-producing component (60) and a set of shutter strips (80). The image-producing component, typically a flat-panel device, has multiple imaging lines that provide light to produce an image. Each shutter strip is situated in front of one or more associated imaging lines. By appropriately switching the shutter strips between light-absorptive and light-transmissive states, the image contrast is enhanced. The shutter strips are typically implemented with a liquid-crystal display structure. The switching of the shutter strips is typically performed with a control component (52/76) which utilizes light to control the shutter switching and which is synchronized to signals (90 or/and 100) that control the imaging lines.

    Abstract: A getter (74) is situated in an auxiliary compartment (72) of a hollow structure (40-46 and 76) having a larger main compartment (70). The auxiliary compartment is situated outside the main compartment and is connected to the main compartment so that the two compartments reach largely the same steady-state compartment pressure. The getter is activated by directing light energy locally through part of the hollow structure and onto the getter. The light energy is typically furnished by a laser beam (60). The getter, typically of the non-evaporable type, is usually inserted as a single piece of gettering material into the auxiliary compartment. The getter normally can be activated/re-activated multiple times in this manner, typically during sealing of different parts of the structure together.

    Abstract: A flat-panel device is fabricated by a process in which a pair of plate structures (40 and 42) are sealed along their interior surfaces (40A and 42B) to opposite edges (44A and 44B) of an outer wall (44) to form a compartment. Subsequently, exterior support structure (64) is attached to the exterior surface of one of the plate structures (40) to significantly increase resistance of the compartment to bending. Exterior support structure (66) is normally likewise attached to the exterior surface of the other plate structure (42) after the sealing operation. The compartment is then typically pumped down to a high vacuum through a suitable pump-out port (46) and closed.

The particles can be made electron emissive after the particle distributing step. Particle bonding material (24) is typically provided to bond the particles to the non-insulating region. The particle bonding material can include carbide formed by heating or/and can be created by modifying a layer (32) provided between the non-insulating region and the particles. In one embodiment, the particles emit electrons primarily from graphite or/and amorphous carbon regions. In another embodiment, the particles are made electron-emissive prior to the particle distributing step.

    Abstract: The yield in manufacturing matrix-addressable devices, particularly flat-panel CRT displays, is increased by a technique in which a determination is first made that a defect exists in part of a first matrix-addressable plate structure (20) of a unitary first active area (32). This typically entails testing a group of the first plate structures to determine whether any of them are defective. The defective part or parts of each defective first plate structure are also identified. At least one non-defective first plate structure normally is subsequently converted into a first matrix-addressable device of the first active area. For a defective first plate structure identified in the testing, the defective part of the structure is removed in such a way that the remainder of the structure forms a second matrix-addressable plate structure (84) of a second active area (32A) smaller than the first active area.
