  • Patent number: 9623851
Abstract: Some embodiments are directed to a brake system for use with a vehicle. The brake system can include a sensor that is configured to sense at least one condition relating to interaction between at least one wheel of the vehicle and a surface upon which the vehicle travels. A controller can receive data from the sensor and be configured to instruct a brake modulator to cause a front brake assembly to modulate the speed of rotation of a front wheel via one of a normal mode and a pulsing mode based on the sensed data. The controller can also be configured to instruct the brake modulator to cause a rear brake assembly to modulate the speed of rotation of a rear wheel via the pulsing mode if the front brake assembly is engaged in reducing the speed of rotation of the front wheel via the pulsing mode.

  • Patent number: 9168923
Abstract: A system and method of maintaining a vehicle on a driver intended path is disclosed. The method includes steps of detecting a failure in a power steering system and controlling a braking system to maintain the motor vehicle approximately on a driver intended path. The driver intended path can be a straight path or a curved path.

  • Patent number: 9008915
Abstract: A method for operating steerable rear wheels of a vehicle includes detecting a rear wheel steering angle of at least one of the steerable rear wheels, and detecting a first vehicular condition. The method further includes determining a weighted rear steering angle value based at least in part upon the rear wheel steering angle and the first vehicular condition, and controlling the steerable rear wheels in response to the weighted rear steering angle value.

  • Patent number: 8886410
Abstract: Methods for controlling a vehicle are provided. The vehicle includes a pair of steerable front wheels and a pair of steerable rear wheels. A steering angle of at least one of the steerable rear wheels is detected. A feed-forward lateral acceleration value is determined based upon the detected steering angle and a scaling factor. Operation of the steerable front wheels and the steerable rear wheels is controlled in response to the feed-forward lateral acceleration value.
