Abstract: An integrated circuit radio transceiver and associated method comprises a multi-mode device operable to support personal area network communications as well as traditional wireless local area network communications. In one embodiment, IEEE 802.11 protocol IBSS communications are used to transport Bluetooth communication data packets. In another embodiment, a direct link comprising direct packet transfers without beaconing is performed between the multi-mode device and another multi-mode device. Thus, the multi-mode device is operable to establish traditional BSS communications with an Access Point in addition to establishing peer-to-peer communications with another multi-mode device to transport the Bluetooth communications over the 802.11 IBSS communication link or over an IEEE 802.11 direct communication link.

  • Patent number: 7324785
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling transmit power of a wireless communication device includes processing that begins when a transmitting wireless communication device transmits a packet to a targeted wireless device via a wireless channel of a communication system at a 1st power level. The processing continues by having the targeted wireless device determining signal strength of the packet received via the wireless channel. The processing then continues when the targeted and/or transmitting device determines the adequacy of the 1st power level based on the determined signal strength. If the 1st power level is adequate, the transmitting wireless device continues to transmit information at the 1st power level. If, however, the 1st power level is not adequate, the transmitting communication device adjusts its transmit power up or down to provide an adequate power level.

  • Publication number: 20070281638
Abstract: A single chip radio transceiver includes circuitry that enables detection of radar signals to enable the radio transceiver to halt communications in overlapping communication bands to avoid interference with the radar transmitting the radar pulses. The radio transceiver is operable to evaluate a number of most and second most common pulse interval values to determine whether a traditional radar signal is present. The radio transceiver also is operable to FM demodulate an incoming signal to determine whether a non-traditional radar signal, such as a bin-5 radar signal, is present. After. FM demodulation, the signal is averaged wherein a substantially large value is produced for non-traditional radar signals and a value approximately equal to zero is produced for a communication signal that is not FM modulated with a continuously increasing frequency signal. Gain control is used to limit incoming signal magnitude to a specified range of magnitudes.

  • Patent number: 7158759
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamic frequency selection in a wireless communication system or network includes processing that begins when an access point determines interference on a wireless channel that is being used by the access point. When the interference exceeds an interference threshold, the access point provides a request packet to affiliated stations being serviced by the access point for channel spectrum information. The processing continues as the affiliated stations generate the channel spectrum information regarding each of the wireless channels in the wireless communication network. The processing proceeds then as the affiliated stations provide the channel spectrum information to the access point via the current wireless channel. The access point interprets the channel spectrum information to determine a desired wireless channel of the plurality of wireless channels within the wireless communication network.

  • Publication number: 20030231723
Abstract: An IQ receiver includes an estimator/compensator module to determine and correct IQ mismatch errors between the I and Q channels of the IQ receiver. The estimator module determines a phase compensation factor C1 and an amplitude compensation factor C2 based on a calibration signal that is injected into the analog front-end of the IQ receiver. A compensator module applies the phase correction factor C1 and the amplitude correction factor C2 to the baseband output of the Q channel in order to reduce any phase or amplitude errors between the I and Q channels. The estimator module and the compensator module can be efficiently implemented in a digital state machine, or processor, including a digital signal processor.
