A data structure for the content may be initially defined, and content items may be stored in the data structure. Formatting information may be stored separately from the content in the form of a template. To publish formatted content, the stored content may be merged with the template. Specialized tags may be included in the template to permit added publishing functionality. In this manner, the system can easily manage large volumes of content and deliver the content to a variety of specialized target devices.
