  • Publication number: 20030056224
Abstract: Small consumer devices with limited memory resources, such as wireless devices for controlling set-top terminals, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or the like, are provided with the capability to access transport type B advanced television enhancement forum (ATVEF) data which is stored in a set-top terminal. Upon receiving a signal including transport type B ATVEF data, the set-top terminal extracts and stores the transport type B ATVEF data. The set-top terminal then parses through the data looking for any uniform resource locators (URLs) that contain a “lid:” protocol indicator, and reformats the “lid:” protocol indicator to an “http:” protocol indicator. The set-top terminal also substitutes the set-top terminal's Internet Protocol (IP) address in place of each of the URLs' current domain names.

  • Publication number: 20030046075
Abstract: Television speech is provided in a desired language using closed caption data already present in a received television signal. The closed caption data, which is representative of words, is extracted from the television signal. The closed caption data is then processed in a speech synthesizer to provide said words as speech in a desired language. The closed caption data can be translated from a first language to a second language prior to or concurrently with conversion to speech. Alternatively, the closed caption data can be carried in various languages in the television signal, and the data in the desired language can be selected for extraction from the television signal and conversion to speech.

  • Publication number: 20030018975
Abstract: The present invention employs a local base station including a transceiver that is arranged to receive wireless image and audio signals from remote capture devices. The transceiver is also arranged to transmit wireless information signals to remote display and control devices such as Internet appliances (IAs) and other information devices having wireless interfaces such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (“PDAs”), pagers, cameras and set-top boxes. The transmitted information signal may be configured by a user or service provider, by interaction with the base station, capture device or remote device to so that selected content of the received signals is played or displayed on the remote devices. The selected content may also be played or displayed using devices, such as televisions and sound systems, that are locally coupled to the base station.
