Patent number: 6555361Abstract: The present invention provides a hybridization chamber that contains a built-in mechanism for saturating the air within the chamber when sealed thereby preventing drying of the liquid sample. The hybridization chamber is defined by matching top and bottom clam-shell like halves that, when brought together, are sealed by an o-ring and clamping device. The chamber is equipped with a liquid reservoir, the liquid from which will serve to saturate the volume of air sealed within the hybridization chamber. A saturated atmosphere within the chamber prevents evaporation of the sample.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2000Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: Corning IncorporatedInventors: George F. Publication number: 20020042069Abstract: A method for producing a DNA microarray for biological assays comprising a plurality of biosites located on a solid substrate. Each biosite has at least one set of chemically presynthesized, oligonucleotides of medium to long lengths attached to the substrate by predominantly non-covalent means, such as electrostatic, hydrophobic, hydrogen bonding, van der waal forces, etc. The oligonucleotides exhibit no predetermined spatial orientation on the substrate surface. The oligonucleotides are chemically unmodified having a length of about 30 bases or longer. Preferably, the oligonucleotides are from about 45 bases to 85 bases, but some embodiments may include very long oligonucleotides of over 100 bases.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2001Publication date: April 11, 2002Inventors: Vickesh E. Patent number: 6070871Abstract: A modified chess game for two or three players with a hexagonal game board having six sides and 169 hexagonal spaces. Each of the six sides including eight spaces adjacent to one another in an edge row such that the first space and the eighth space are shared with an adjacent edge row. The 169 spaces contain one of three distinctly different space indicia, and are arranged such that no two adjacent spaces have the same space indicia.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1998Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Inventors: Christopher J. Wilson, Yancey B. Quinn, Jr.

Patent number: 5901561Abstract: A fault restart routine for an icemaker having a microprocessor-based system controller. The fault restart routine provides at least a limited number of attempts at automatically restarting the icemaker after a shutdown has occurred because of a detected fault condition. If the fault condition is not a water inlet fault, the routine waits a first predetermined period of time before attempting to restart the icemaker. If the fault is detected as being a water inlet fault, then the system controller waits for a second predetermined time period before restarting the icemaker. If after restarting the icemaker, the icemaker completes one complete cycle of operation (i.e., a complete FREEZE cycle and a complete HARVEST cycle), then the fault restart routine is exited and a previously generated fault code is cleared.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1997Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Assignee: Scotsman Group, Inc.Inventors: Matthew W. Allison, William J. Black, Christopher J. Wilson

Patent number: 5776785Abstract: A method and apparatus for immunoassays utilizes an improved collection technique of fluorescence induced emissions at the solid phase/liquid phase interface from surface plasmon resonance sensing devices. In a preferred embodiment, a solid phase substrate is coated with a thin film of a conducting material on which a first specific binding partner is directly or indirectly immobilized. The coated solid phase substrate is incubated with a liquid component comprised of a biological sample containing a specific ligand or analyte and a fluorescent labeled second specific binding partner in the case of immunometric assays, or a fluorescent labeled ligand or analog thereof in the case of competitive assays.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: Diagnostic Products CorporationInventors: Jinn-nan Lin, Christopher J.
