  • Patent number: 9144796
Abstract: A method of coating substrate monoliths is disclosed. The method comprises locating a containment means on top of the first end face of the monolith; and dosing a predetermined quantity of washcoat composition comprising a liquid phase, at least one polysaccharide rheology modifier and at least one of (i) a suspension of metal oxide particles into the containment means; and (ii) at least one metal salt solute in the liquid phase. The locating step may occur before or after the dosing step. Pressure is applied to the washcoat composition to generate shear stress and to transfer an entirety of washcoat composition into the channels of the monolith by plug flow. Substantially all of the predetermined quantity is retained within the monolith. The part-coated monolith is then rotated so that the second end face is located at the top, and the first three steps are repeated without drying the part-coated monolith.

  • Patent number: 8908577
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate relocating an IP buffer from a conventional location in a user device handset to a radio-access network (RAN) interface in order to reduce acquisition delay in the user device. By performing IP buffering at the transmission side of a forward link transmission, acquisition time can be reduced by approximately 5-7 seconds. Additionally, a physical layer aware encoder can be employed, which has knowledge of transmission constraints associated with, for example, a conventional DVB-H transmission protocol, and can parse streaming media into 1-second segments that can be pre-packaged in a current superframe for display at a subsequent time.

  • Patent number: 8515336
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methods operable to distribute targeted content. Additionally, disclosed are corresponding apparatus and methods operable to selectively choose and cache selected ones from among the distributed targeted content, and to further choose ones from among the cached content to present on a device. In some aspects, selective caching of content may be based upon a match between predetermined content attribute information and predetermined profile information. Further, in some aspects, an indicator is operable to trigger the selective inclusion of one or more of the cached content in a presentation of other content, which may be based on a match between a desired content attribute associated with the indicator and the respective predetermined content attribute information of the cached content.

  • Publication number: 20040103651
Abstract: A method of removing sulfur from a NOx-trap composition positioned downstream and/or on an electric heater in a diesel exhaust system comprises the step of periodically heating the electric heater when the exhaust gas composition is lean, thereby to desorb SOx adsorbed on the NOx trap composition. An exhaust system for carrying out the method comprises an electric heater, a NOx-trap composition positioned downstream and/or on the electric heater and means for controlling the electric heater to periodically heat the NOx-trap composition when the exhaust gas composition is lean, thereby to desorb SOx adsorbed on the NOx-trap composition.

  • Publication number: 20040077358
Abstract: Methods and systems for distributed arbitration in a push-to-talk communications system are disclosed. A server receives talk requests from user communications terminals in a push-to-talk communications system. The server generates state information based on the talk requests and delivers the state information to the user communications terminals. The user communications terminals execute a distributed arbitration algorithm to determine which user communications terminal should have possession of a communications channel among user communications terminals with simultaneously pending talk requests based on the state information.

  • Patent number: 6625976
Abstract: A platinum group metal three-way conversion catalyst composition containing a high temperature catalytic component and a low temperature catalytic component has each catalytic component present as separate distinct particles in the same washcoat layer. The catalyst composition is prepared from a washcoat slurry containing a high temperature catalyst support material, and a low temperature catalyst support material, each support material being of sufficiently large particle size so as to prevent each support material forming a solution or a sol with the liquid medium of the slurry. The platinum group metal or metals can be impregnated into each support material either after formation of the washcoat on a non-porous refractory, metallic or palletized substrate or before forming the washcoat slurry.

  • Patent number: 6477831
Abstract: Engine exhaust gas emissions are cleaned up using apparatus comprising an electrical heater, a first catalyst for oxidizing CO and H2, and a hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst (which may be the same as the first catalyst). Engine management initiates electrical heating upon start-up of the engine, and ensures that there is sufficient CO and H2 and sufficient additional air supplied to the exhaust system, to provide chemical energy in the form of exotherm, whereby the hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst is speeded in reaching light-off temperature.

  • Patent number: 4080957
Abstract: The invention provides a method for heating water by solar radiation using a reflux condenser system in which a heat transfer liquid is boiled by solar radiation and the vapor used to heat the water in a heat exchanger. The solar panel itself is highly efficient in operation and comprises a solar plate which incorporates a number of tubes containing the heat transfer liquid, these elements being located within an evacuated enclosure. Vapor from the boiling liquid passes up these tubes into a jacket surrounding a pipe through which the water to be heated is passed; liquid condensing within the jacket passes back to the tubes in the solar plate under gravity. The system incorporating the tubes and the jacket is maintained at a low gas pressure so that boiling of the heat transfer liquid takes place whenever there is a temperature difference between the panel and the heat exchanger.
