  • Patent number: 7818884
Abstract: A shaving apparatus comprising a first shaving unit, including a first outer cutter (101,102) and a first undercutter (20) which cooperate together, a skin agitation member (12), a housing and a drive source (58) mounted in the housing. The outer cutter is mounted in a frame (10). The drive source is coupled to the first undercutter to provide oscillatory movement with respect to the frame at a frequency in the range 70 to 280 Hz. The drive source is also coupled to the skin agitation member to provide oscillatory movement at a frequency in the range 5 to 50 Hz. The first outer cutter is un-driven with respect to the frame.

  • Publication number: 20100236073
Abstract: An electric razor comprises an apertured foil for (1) contact with skin being shaved, and an undercutter (23) urged against the foil and movable relative to the foil, in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the foil, for shearing hairs that protrude through the foil apertures. The foil has a ridge (12) extending along the foil with first and second foil portions (8,9) forming respective flanks of the ridge. The cross-section of the foil is in a plane normal to the longitudinal axis and has an asymmetric arched profile. A first segment (5) of the cross-section taken through the first foil portion (8) has a radius of curvature in the range of 0.5 to 3.0 mm. A second segment (6) of the cross-section taken through the second foil portion (9) is contiguous with the first portion and has a radius of curvature in the range of 5 to 30 mm. The undercutter is in contact with the foil portions at both flanks of the ridge.

  • Publication number: 20100043242
Abstract: A safety razor having a blade unit has at least one blade and a handle casing. A pivotal connection structure is disposed between the blade unit and the handle casing. A first member is connected to the blade unit and a second member is connected to the handle casing. A joint member connects the first member and the second member and facilitates movement of the first member relative to the second member about a hinge axis that is substantially perpendicular to the at least one blade.

  • Patent number: 7111399
Abstract: A method of shaving with a shaving apparatus including an undercutter assembly having a primary undercutter and a secondary undercutter, the primary and secondary undercutters having interleaved blade elements. The method includes the steps of: reciprocally moving the undercutter assembly in hair shearing relation with an outer cutter; moving the primary undercutter relative to the secondary undercutter; trapping hairs which are to be cut between interleaved blade elements of the primary and secondary undercutters; pulling the trapped hairs by continued movement of the undercutter assembly in a respective reciprocation direction; and cutting the hairs between the outer cutter and the undercutter assembly.

  • Patent number: 6935027
Abstract: A shaving apparatus includes an outer cutter (60), for example in the form of a perforated foil, and an undercutter assembly (10), adjacent to the outer cutter, which is drivable for linear reciprocation in a reciprocation direction. The undercutter assembly has a driven primary undercutter (20) and a secondary undercutter (30), which is moveable with respect thereto, the blade elements of the primary and secondary undercutters being mutually interleaved. When the primary undercutter (20) is reciprocated relative the outer cutter (60), the secondary undercutter (30) also performs a reciprocating movement, which lags behind that of the primary undercutter, so the blade elements of the primary and second undercutters move towards one another at intervals and can trap hairs therebetween, causing them to be pulled in addition to the cutting action and thus achieving a closer shave.

  • Patent number: 6568450
Abstract: The tape dispenser has a handle (1) for storing a supply of tape (18). The tape (18) consists of a backing ribbon carrying a coating composition, and backing ribbon from which the coating composition has been removed. An applicator (12) having en edge (10) around which the tape (18) passes is arranged for pressing the tape (18) against a surface to transfer the coating composition from the backing ribbon to said surface.

  • Patent number: 6231257
Abstract: A marking instrument includes a barrel, a marking tip and a marking fluid reservoir disposed in the barrel, a retraction mechanism to move the marking tip from an operable position to a retracted position through an opening in the barrel, and a seal to close off the marking tip from the barrel opening when the marking tip is retracted. The seal is toroidal in shape, which allows the seal to close upon itself, thereby eliminating any need for additional manipulation or outside forces to close the seal. The marking tip, marking fluid reservoir and seal are replaceable so that each can be replaced when they become worn or inoperable.

  • Patent number: 6112796
Abstract: The tape dispenser has a housing accommodating a tape. The tape consists of a carrier ribbon carrying a coating of a composition. The housing also accommodates used carrier ribbon from which the composition has been removed. The supply of tape is held in an elongated reel wound around a pair of spaced and independently rotatable spool members. Ends of the carrier ribbon are connected together, and the used carrier ribbon is stored on the reel with remaining unused tape.

  • Patent number: 5820728
Abstract: A tape dispenser for applying a strip of a coating composition to a substrate, including a holder containing a supply spool of tape consisting of a carrier ribbon coated on one side with the composition, and a take-up spool for used tape consisting of carrier ribbon from which the composition has been removed. The tape is guided to pass between the supply and take-up spools around an edge of an application tip element used to press the ribbon against the substrate to transfer the composition onto the substrate. The application tip element is coupled to the holder for movement about a predetermined axis substantially aligned with the direction in which the element is pressed against the substrate in use of the dispenser. Frictional forces exerted on the application tip element during movement of the element across the substrate surface cause the element to move about the axis to maintain the edge substantially perpendicular to the direction of the movement of the element across the surface.

  • Patent number: RE40631
Abstract: In a correction tape dispenser, wherein a backing ribbon carrying a layer of correcting composition is fed from a supply spool (2) around the edge (6) of an applicator tip (10) used to press the tape against a paper surface (P) to transfer the layer of correcting composition onto the paper, and back to a take-up spool (3), a tape guide system (11,12; 22,23) is provided near the tip to redirect the tape, the tip edge (6) being at an angle to the feed direction so that the body of the tape dispenser may be held in a forwardly and downwardly inclined orientation similar to that in which a writing instrument is normally held.
