  • Patent number: 10164444
Abstract: An energy storage device includes an integrated fuel gauge that is operatively connected to the energy storage device. The fuel gauge evaluates an operating parameter of the energy storage device and dynamically determines a state of charge. The fuel gauge communicates a communication including a requested operating parameter to the charging component with the single communication line and the signal indicates to an operating system component a change of an energy storage device state. The signal is used to trigger an alert or interrupt that causes the operating system component to display the change of the energy storage state based on the signal.

Date of Patent: December 25, 2018
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Thomas P. Sawyers, Jon G. Lloyd, John Wozniak, Christopher K. Matthews

The fuel gauge communicates a communication including a requested operating parameter to the charging component with the single communication line and the signal indicates to an operating system component a change of an energy storage device state. The signal is used to trigger an alert or interrupt that causes the operating system component to display the change of the enemy storage state based on the signal.

  • Publication number: 20150002082
Abstract: An energy storage device includes an integrated fuel gauge that is operatively connected to the energy storage device. The fuel gauge evaluates an operating parameter of the energy storage device and dynamically determines a state of charge. A charging component is coupled to the energy storage device with a single communication line. The fuel gauge communicates a communication including a requested operating parameter to the charging component with the single communication line according to a predetermined charge profile based on the state of charge determined.

  • Publication number: 20120025786
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for recharging a rechargeable battery (202) having step charge requirements, where the charge current is tapered as successive voltage thresholds of the step charge requirements are approached. The battery (202) is programmed with a charge tapering algorithm, so that the battery charger (208) need not be programmed with battery-specific information. The charge tapering algorithm is used in conjunction with the step charge requirements and a measurement of one or more properties of the battery to determine an appropriate charge current as a function of time.
