  • Patent number: 6320915
Abstract: Improved synchronization of OFDM signals is achieved. A controlled oscillator (8) provides clock pulses to derive complex samples of an input signal which are applied both to a fast Fourier transform (5) for data recovery and to a synchronization unit (9). The synchronization unit generates the complex product XY* of the input and the delayed input, which is applied to a high-pass filter (30) to suppress frequencies below the symbol frequency. The filter output is applied through a symbol comb filter (40) to an adaptive slicer (50) which determines the larger magnitude of the real and imaginary components of the signal. A pulse processor (60) generates a single pulse at the leading edge of the symbol pulse which is applied to a symbol counter (70). The symbol counter includes two count stages arranged to lock in quickly and yet be variable to accomodate different guard intervals in the OFDM signal.

  • Publication number: 20010042040
Abstract: Trading processes are operative to route orders from order rooms to market processes, which process the orders according to respective market methodologies. The order routing strategy can be embodied in a decision table having rules with conditions and actions to be taken when the conditions are true. Accordingly, order rooms can readily configure and reconfigure trading processes.

  • Patent number: 6240146
Abstract: An apparatus for demodulating a digital video broadcast signal comprising data modulated on a multiplicity of spaced carrier frequencies. A transform device may analyze the digital broadcast signal to provide a series of symbol values for each of the multiplicity of carrier frequencies. An automatic frequency control device may control the frequency of the series of symbol values in dependence on a common phase error signal from the series of symbol values. First and second common phase error correction (CPE) devices may receive common phase error signals, for correcting the signal values from the transform device. A channel equalization device may compensate for communication channel impairments for receiving directly the phase error corrected signals from the first CPE device.

  • Patent number: 5971390
Abstract: Each sheet of a stack of media is aligned with a fixed alignment surface prior to being fed towards a process station of a printer by a single pick roll. During the first portion of its cycle of operation, the sheet advancing force of the pick roll, which is offset from the axis or centerline of the sheet, exerts a torque on at least the uppermost sheet of the stack to have one of its sides engage the alignment surface if it is skewed. When the one side of the sheet is not engaging the alignment surface when the pick roll is initially energized, the uppermost sheet's leading edge engages a resilient projection of an insert of a rib, which is offset from the axis of the sheet but farther from the alignment surface than the pick roll. The skewed sheet pivots about the projection, which is formed of a high coefficient of friction material, extending beyond the surface of the rib. During the remainder of its energization, the pick roll advances the sheet towards the process station of the printer.

  • Patent number: 5894956
Abstract: A disposable replacement tip for caulking tubes includes a conical first end portion tapered acutely to a distal sharpened point. The exterior of the first end portion is provided with threads, and an intake port adjacent to the sharp point extends diametrically through the tubular member. Joined to the wide end of the first end portion is a generally cylindrical, tubular central portion. A second end portion extends from the central portion in opposition to the first end portion, both end portions being aligned along a common axis. The second end portion comprises another conical tubular member tapered acutely to an open end. A continuous flow space extends from the intake port, through the interiors of the first end portion, the central portion, and the second end portion to the open end thereof. The sharpened point of the first end portion may be driven into the end opening of a caulking tube, or through the sidewall of the tube, and the device is rotated manually.

  • Patent number: 4003020
Abstract: Digital words are transmitted together with associated parity or checking digits. The parity bits are each related to a group of bits of the same significance from several different words. At a receiving station, a parity bit is generated for the same group from the incoming words and compared with the corresponding received parity bit. When the generated and received parity bits differ, a value is estimated for each word containing a bit from the respective group, and the estimated and received values for the word are compared to detect any word containing an erroneous bit, which bit is then corrected. This invention relates to the transmission of digital signals. In digital television systems the video signal is commonly represented by a series of eight-digit binary numbers. If any of the bits are altered by errors, then the effect appears as a brightness error in the picture, the magnitude of which depends on the significance of the affected bit.
