  • Patent number: 7551731
Abstract: Embodiments of the system, and method provide for network support for providing caller flexibility on “name”, “number”, and “message” for a calling terminal that is displayed on a called terminal. One embodiment of the method may have the steps of: entering a command to use at least one of an alternate caller name, an alternate caller number and an alternate caller message for a calling terminal, instead of a preassigned caller name and caller number for the calling terminal; looking up the at least one of an alternate caller name, an alternate caller number and an alternate caller message; and using the at least one of an alternate caller name, an alternate caller number and an alternate caller message in place of the preassigned caller name and caller number for the calling terminal.

  • Publication number: 20080005119
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed to remotely update the user status of a user on a presence server. Assume that a communication server provides a communication service to a client device operating a client application, and a presence server coupled to the communication server monitors the user status. In one embodiment of the invention, a status updating system comprises an interface system adapted to receive a request to update the user status on the presence server from a communication device not operating the client application. The status updating system further comprises a processing system coupled to the interface system that is adapted to identify a user identifier of the user for the communication service on the presence server in response to the request, and to transmit an update message to the presence server to update the user status for the communication service indicated by the user identifier.

  • Patent number: 6141553
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for using fuzzy logic to determine when handovers are desirable and the extent to which the radio transmission power in a cellular telephone network should be adjusted. The mobile phone and the base transceiver station measure certain system parameters, including rate of handover, quality, distance, level, call duration, and power. These measurements are input to a fuzzifier. The fuzzifier applies standard fuzzy-set-theory membership functions to the measurements, and the fuzzifier outputs a set of fuzzy variables corresponding to the measurements. The fuzzifier outputs are input to an inference engine. The inference engine contains a set of rules that, when applied to the inference engine inputs, indicate: when a handover should be performed; when a handover should not be performed; and the amount by which, if any, the transmission power should be adjusted.
