Patent number: 10247373Abstract: A lighting system can include a luminaire and a bracket for mounting the luminaire to a structure during installation. The bracket can be configured for mounting to the structure independent of the luminaire. Once the bracket is mounted, the luminaire can be hung or suspended from the bracket to facilitate wiring the luminaire. Once the hung luminaire is wired, the installer can readily move the luminaire into a long-term operating position with respect to the bracket and fasten the luminaire to the bracket with a clip or other appropriate fastener.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2016Date of Patent: April 2, 2019Assignee: EATON INTELLIGENT POWER LIMITEDInventors: Christopher Ladewig, Steven D. Patent number: 9804322Abstract: A lighting fixture includes a housing channel and a heat sink assembly coupled to the housing channel. The heat sink assembly includes a heat sink base and a heat sink clamp that are coupled together via a fastener to retain a waveguide to the lighting fixture. In particular, the fastener is disposed at an acute angle relative to the respective waveguide. Further, the lighting fixture includes one or more light sources coupled to the heat sink base and oriented such that light emitted by the one or more light sources enters an edge of the waveguide. Furthermore, the lighting fixture includes an end cap that covers an open lateral end of the housing channel. Further, the end cap operates as an alignment bracket to couple the lighting fixture to a second lighting fixture adjacent the open lateral end of the housing channel of the lighting fixture.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2015Date of Patent: October 31, 2017Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: James Blessitt, Christopher Ladewig

Patent number: 9677751Abstract: A multi-functional heat sink includes a top portion and a skirt portion extending down from the top portion. When a light source is attached to the top portion on an underside of the multi-functional heat sink, the skirt portion reduces risk of rain water from reaching the light source and prevents light emitted by the light source from exiting the multi-functional heat sink in an upward direction. The multi-functional heat sink is made from sheet metal.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2014Date of Patent: June 13, 2017Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Philip Dean Winters, Christopher Ladewig

Patent number: 9605830Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for reducing glare or pixilation associated with LEDs are disclosed. The disclosure relates to a light module that includes a cover panel that reduces contrast in the light emitted by LEDs. The cover panel can be mounted on a substrate which can include a plurality of LEDs. Apertures in the cover panel are aligned with each of the LEDs and any optic that may be disposed over each LED. A first portion of the light emitted from the LEDs passes through the optic only and into the environment to be illuminated. A second portion of the light emitted from the LEDs passes through both the optic and the cover panel before passing into the environment to be illuminated. The cover panel can be diffuse and can include various characteristics including textures, objects, and angled surfaces that assist in scattering light.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2015Date of Patent: March 28, 2017Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Philip Dean Winters, Hung Dinh, Reed Alan Bradford, Sylvia Herman, Christopher Ladewig

Patent number: 9587814Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) module having a configurable LED substrate capable of receiving varying numbers and layouts of LEDs are described herein. The LED substrate includes LED coupling points for receiving the LEDs and electrical traces etched into the substrate for routing power to the LEDs. The LED module can include a multi-LED over-optic having multiple over-optics that are configured to match the number and configuration of the LEDs positioned on the substrate. The LED coupling points and over-optics can be arranged symmetrically to enable the LED module to be rotated to adjust the light output distribution and direction. The LED module can include a power connection mechanism, for example located at the center of the substrate, that also allows the LED module to be rotated. One or more of the LED modules may be mounted on a heat sink and incorporated into a light fixture.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2016Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Assignee: COOPER TECHNOLOGIES COMPANYInventors: Anthony James Carney, Chun Wah Chan, Gregg Arthur Lehman, Ellis Patrick, Christopher Ladewig, Timothy Glen Wright, Christopher Michael Bryant, Victor Diegues
