Patent number: 7863012Abstract: The methods and reagents described in this invention are used to analyze circulating tumor cells, clusters, fragments, and debris. Analysis is performed with a number of platforms, including flow cytometry and the CellSpotter® fluorescent microscopy imaging system. Analyzing damaged cells has shown to be important. However, there are two sources of damage: in vivo and in vitro. Damage in vivo occurs by apoptosis, necrosis, or immune response. Damage in vitro occurs during sample acquisition, handling, transport, processing, or analysis. It is therefore desirable to confine, reduce, eliminate, or at least qualify in vitro damage to prevent it from interfering in analysis. Described herein are methods to diagnose, monitor, and screen disease based on circulating rare cells, including malignancy as determined by CTC, clusters, fragments, and debris. Also provided are kits for assaying biological specimens using these methods.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2004Date of Patent: January 4, 2011Assignee: Veridex, LLCInventors: Galla Chandra Rao, Christopher Larson, Madeline Repollet, Herman Rutner, Leon W. Patent number: 7590572Abstract: A system and method for facilitating a transition from being a dependent of a parent tax filer to being a newly independent tax filer may include determining if a prior-year dependent will be responsible for filing his or her own tax return. The system and method may include obtaining permission from the parent tax filer to offer an evaluation of a tax program to the newly independent tax filer. If permission is granted, information relevant to the newly independent tax filer may be extracted from the parent tax filer's tax information. An invitation to evaluate the tax program may be sent to the newly independent tax filer on behalf of the parent tax filer. If the invitation is accepted, the extracted information may be used to seed a current tax return for the newly independent tax filer. If not, the extracted information may be deleted.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2006Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: Intuit Inc.Inventor: Christopher A. Larson

Publication number: 20070212700Abstract: Methods of using biological sequence data. Evolved biological sequences may be used to identify the defining biological characteristics of the sequences—the three-dimensional structure and biochemical function. Some of the present methods extract such information, use such information to predict functional mechanism, and/or use such information in the design of artificial biological sequences. Other methods are included, as are related computer readable media and computer systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2006Publication date: September 13, 2007Inventors: Rama Ranganathan, William Russ, Christopher Larson, Rohit Sharma

Publication number: 20070005009Abstract: A tubular transition member having an annular wall with at least one cut extending through the annular wall is disclosed for controlling a transition in stiffness of a catheter from a stiffer more pushable proximal section to a more flexible and trackable distal section and increasing kink resistance. The transition member may extend across the junction formed between the stiffer proximal section and the more flexible distal section. The transition member may be used in conjunction with any type of catheter including single-operator-exchange type catheters, over-the wire type catheters, and/or fixed-wire type catheters.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 6, 2006Publication date: January 4, 2007Inventors: Christopher Larson, Angela Volk

Patent number: 7153561Abstract: In a substrate having a graphic and a method for applying the graphic thereto, a non-phosphorescent material is applied to the substrate to define a non-phosphorescent region of the graphic and a phosphorescent material is applied to the substrate to define a phosphorescent region of the graphic. At least a portion of the non-phosphorescent region and at least a portion of the phosphorescent region are in overlapping relationship with each other so as to define an overlapping region of the graphic. When the overlapping region is exposed to light sufficient to cause phosphorescence of the phosphorescent region the at least a portion of the phosphorescent region phosphoresces to render the overlapping region visible in the absence of light. In another embodiment, the graphic has a non-photoluminescent region in overlapping relationship with a photoluminescent region.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2003Date of Patent: December 26, 2006Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Wordwide, Inc.Inventors: Todd Christopher Larson, Mark M. Mleziva, Michael Donald Sperl, Paula Mary Sosalla

Publication number: 20060176967Abstract: Time correlation of signal to distortion characteristics is achieved by acquiring time domain data for a frequency band representing a communication signal, the communication signal having multiple channels. The time domain data is simultaneously converted to frequency and demodulation domain data in sequential time blocks. The frequency and demodulation domain data are processed to obtain respectively frequency and demodulation domain measurements. The resulting measurements are displayed simultaneously as a function of time for all the time blocks and/or for a selected one of the time blocks. An ACLRogram display provides a display having a time axis and a frequency axis in the form of bars spanning the frequency band for each time block with each bar being divided into frequency sub-bands representing a main channel and adjacent side channels, the shading of each segment of the bar representing a measurement value for that segment.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2005Publication date: August 10, 2006Inventors: Steven Stanton, John Turpin, Christopher Larson

Publication number: 20060134162Abstract: A drug delivery device for placement in the eye includes a drug core comprising a pharmaceutically active agent, and a holder that holds the drug core. The holder is made of a material impermeable to passage of the active agent and includes an opening for passage of the pharmaceutically agent therethrough to eye tissue. The device includes a layer of material permeable to passage of the active agent. This invention provides improved methods that do not require the use of adhesives to form the drug delivery device.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2004Publication date: June 22, 2006Inventor: Christopher Larson

Patent number: 6949089Abstract: A method of concurrently providing a series of types of pant-like garments and corresponding information to consumers. The series includes two or more pant-like garments, each of the garments corresponding to a stage of toilet training. Each of the garments in the series may differ from one another in terms of absorbent capacity, size, and/or features. The information provided to the consumer helps the consumer discern which garment from the series is most appropriate for a child in a specific stage of the toilet training process.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2002Date of Patent: September 27, 2005Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Christopher Peter Olson, Shirlee Ann Weber, Mark Michael Mleziva, Sherry Ann Van Dyke, Angela Rae Eder, Todd Christopher Larson, Cynthia Louise Wyngaard

Publication number: 20050201586Abstract: An electro-acoustic transducer for driving a large surface is used to convert electrical signals into sound. The transducer has a housing with a cast aluminum bottom and a molded plastic top. The top and bottom are fastened together by screws with a gasket in between the contacting surfaces to form a housing for a high power electromagnetic voice coil driver mechanism. The top has an opening to allow the voice coil to be centered in its gap by a centering gauge during assembly of the driver. A cap closes the opening once the voice coil is fixed in place in the housing. The op is hexagonal and flat with circular rings in the top surface to allow the top to flex in a controlled manner while supporting the bottom which remains stationary.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 10, 2004Publication date: September 15, 2005Inventors: Dean Rivera, Christopher Larson
