  • Patent number: 7750078
Abstract: Disclosed herein is the preparation of reaction products which contain carboxylic acid-grafted functionalized propylene homopolymers and copolymers that can be used as additives for polyolefin-based plastic products such as hot melt adhesives. Such reaction product additives may be prepared by: a) providing a first reactant comprising a selected type of relatively low molecular weight, low melt viscosity, molten propylene-based homopolymer or copolymer; b) forming a reaction mixture by adding to this first reactant a second reactant comprising an unsaturated carboxylic acid-based functionalizing agent, and an initiator comprising a certain type of organic peroxide; and c) maintaining the resulting reaction mixture at a relatively low temperature between about 130° C. and about 165° C. for a period of time and under conditions sufficient to form a reaction product which comprises acid-grafted propylene-based polymeric material, and which has a relatively high Grafting Efficiency.

  • Patent number: 7524910
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to article comprising a polymer comprising one or more C3 to C40 olefins, optionally one or more diolefins, and less than 5 mole % of ethylene having a Dot T-Peel of 1 Newton or more, a branching index (g?) of 0.95 or less measured at the Mz of the polymer; and an Mw of 100,000 or less. This invention further relates to a process to produce an olefin polymer comprising: 1) selecting a first catalyst component capable of producing a polymer having an Mw of 100,000 or less and a crystallinity of 20% or less; 2) selecting a second catalyst component capable of producing polymer having an Mw of 100,000 or less and a crystallinity of 40% or more; 3) contacting the catalyst components in the presence of one or more activators with one or more C3 to C40 olefins, in a reaction zone.
