Patent number: 9517329Abstract: A venous access port assembly having a housing base with a discharge port, a septum, and a cap, with an interior reservoir. The housing base is provided with X-ray discernable indicia to identify an attribute of the assembly after its implantation and clearly appear on an X-ray of the patient in a manner informing the radiologist or technologist and the medical practitioner of that particular attribute. Such indicia can be depicted as cutouts through a disc of radiopaque material where the cutouts are in the form of alphabetical letters such as “CT”, or can be a set of discrete elements of radiopaque material, that are affixed along the bottom surface of the housing base or embedded within the thickness of the bottom housing wall.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2011Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: Medical Components, Inc.Inventors: Raymond Bizup, Kevin Sanford, Christopher Linden, Kenneth M. Publication number: 20160325083Abstract: A dual reservoir access port includes a base having proximal and distal fluid reservoirs. The fluid reservoirs each comprise a bottom and a side wall. A dual prong outlet stem projects from a distal end of the base and comprises a first prong and a second prong. A first fluid channel extends through the first prong to the distal reservoir, and a second fluid channel extends through the second prong to the proximal fluid reservoir. A puncture shield is disposed between at least a portion of the second fluid channel and the bottom of the distal fluid reservoir. A needle-penetrable septum is disposed atop of each of the fluid reservoirs. A cap is placed over and around the port base compressing and sealing the septa against the base. A locking collar may be placed over a dual lumen catheter to lock the catheter to the dual prong outlet stern.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2016Publication date: November 10, 2016Inventors: Christopher Linden, Raymond Bizup, Cristian M. Publication number: 20150141819Abstract: A sphenocath including a sheath assembly including a sheath hub with a sheath tube extending therefrom with a passage extending from a proximal end of the sheath hub to a distal end of the sheath tube; a catheter assembly including a catheter hub with a catheter tube extending therefrom with a passage extending from a proximal end of the catheter hub to a distal end of the catheter tube; wherein the catheter assembly passes through the sheath assembly with a portion of the catheter hub engaging a portion of the sheath hub to limit relative rotation between the hubs while permitting relative axial movement such that in an initial non-extended position the distal end of the catheter tube is proximate to the distal end of the sheath tube. A system further including a guidewire is also provided. A method of inserting the catheter tube is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2014Publication date: May 21, 2015Inventors: Christopher Linden, Frank Debartola, Donald Geer, Kevin E. Publication number: 20130237928Abstract: A Huber needle assembly. The Huber needle assembly includes a housing, a Huber needle having a bent tip, a base through which the Huber needle is slidably disposed, a tip block mechanism, and a safety or restraint mechanism. The tip block mechanism includes a needle block slidably disposed within the base and urged by a spring to block the tip of the Huber needle when the tip of the Huber needle is retracted into the base. In one exemplary embodiment, the safety or restraint mechanism includes a cable having a first end anchored within the housing and a second end anchored within the base. The cable restrains movement of the housing relative to the base. In another exemplary embodiment, the safety or restraint mechanism includes a collar disposed within the base. The collar is configured to prevent passage of the bent tip of the Huber needle.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2013Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: MEDICAL COMPONENTS, INC.Inventors: Mark Fisher, Christopher Linden, Cristian M. Patent number: 8343104Abstract: A catheter assembly (10) having an outer catheter (12) and an inner catheter (14) extending coaxially through the outer catheter, and a hub (16). The inner catheter (14) is axially movable within and with respect to the outer catheter (14) by use of an actuator assembly (130) such that the catheter assembly has an opened condition permitting fluid communication with vasculature of a patient, and a closed condition preventing fluid communication with the vasculature of the patient. The opened condition permits the intended use of the catheter assembly such as for hemodialysis of the patient. In the closed condition, locking solution may be maintained in the catheter assembly and later removed therefrom, with essentially no locking solution leaving the catheter assembly or entering the patient. The actuator assembly (130) is secured to a proximal end portion (128) of the inner catheter (14) as it protrudes proximally from the hub (16), where it is accessible to the practitioner.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2008Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Medical Components, Inc.Inventors: John Martin, Timothy Schweikert, Christopher Linden, Kevin Sanford, Mark S. Patent number: 5969443Abstract: An electromagnetic actuating device comprises a solenoid coil to which a control current can be applied and an armature associated with the solenoid coil which is adapted to carry out movements which are dependent upon a control current flowing through the solenoid coil and a spring arrangement for biassing the armature into opposite directions, with a holding position being defined which is assumed by the armature at a holding current through the solenoid coil, with the holding current flowing through the solenoid coil being variable to a higher value or to a lower value with the armature not leaving the holding position, and both the higher and the lower current value being able to be dimensioned in such a manner that interference influences on the magnetic and spring forces which actuate the armature do not bring the armature from its holding position into an actuated position which is different from the holding position.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1998Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Lucas Industries Public Limited CompanyInventors: Christopher Linden, Stefan Helbing
