  • Patent number: 10113435
Abstract: A gas turbine component subject to extreme temperatures and pressures includes a wall defined by opposite first and second surfaces. An airflow aperture through the wall is defined by an aperture wall surface which extends from a first opening in the first surface to a second opening in the second surface. The aperture wall surface is flared at a juncture with the first surface, such that the first opening has a greater cross-sectional flow area than the second opening. A high-pressure, high-temperature coating is adhered to the first surface, and adhered to at least a portion of the aperture wall surface.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 30, 2018
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
    Inventor: Christopher M. Pater
  • Patent number: 9511452
Abstract: An assembly may comprise a first part including a first surface, and a second part including a second surface and a bottom edge having sloped regions and at least one well between the sloped regions. The assembly may further comprise a brazed joint joining the first surface to the second surface. The at least one well may be configured to collect excess braze material from the brazed joint.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 9, 2015
Date of Patent: December 6, 2016
    Assignee: UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION
Inventors: Christopher M. Pater, Steven W. Burd, Derk S. Philippona, Robert J. Sayers

  • Patent number: 5938823
Abstract: Air cleansing apparatus includes an electrostatic precipitator in which the collector plates are made of, for instance, reticulated chemical vapor deposited silicon carbide, or reticulated silicon carbide ceramic coated with titanium nitride, zirconium diboride, or chemical vapor deposited silicon carbide. Microorganisms entrained on the collector plates are thermally degraded or vaporized by microwave radiation directed against the plates during a sterilization period which follows a collection period.
