Patent number: 9713724Abstract: In general, the invention is directed to a system with a fail-safe mode for remote programming of medical devices, such as implantable medical devices (IMDs). During a remote programming session, an adverse event, such as a programming session failure, may prevent proper completion of a programming or result in improper programming due to data corruption or other factors. If a programming session is not completed correctly, the IMD is susceptible to improper operation, possibly exposing a patient to delivery of unnecessary or inappropriate therapies. A fail-safe mode reduces the likelihood of improper operation following a programming session failure. The fail-safe mode defines one or more fail-safe operations designed to preserve proper operation of the IMD. In some embodiments, the fail-safe operations include notifying a person concerning the failure of the programming session, modifying programming parameters within the implantable medical device, and delivering a therapy to a patient.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2011Date of Patent: July 25, 2017Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.Inventors: Christopher M. Petersen, James E. Willenbring

Patent number: 9440240Abstract: A combined ionic air filter and humidifier apparatus filters air using ionic air filtering, humidifies at least a portion of the filtered ionized air, and directs the humidified filtered ionized air back into the environment. The apparatus generally includes an ionic air filter for ionizing and filtering air to produce filtered ionized air and a humidifier for humidifying the filtered ionized air to produce humidified filtered ionized air. A humidifier manifold fluidly couples the humidifier with the ionic air filter in a manner that does not allow the humidifier to interfere with operation of the ionic air filter. One or more fans draw the air into the ionic air filter and direct at least a portion of the filtered ionized air into the humidifier manifold such that the humidified filtered ionized air is discharged from the humidifier manifold.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2014Date of Patent: September 13, 2016Assignee: Brookstone Purchasing, Inc.Inventors: Stephen B. Mills, Christopher M. Petersen

Patent number: 8868794Abstract: System and method for interfacing with a medical device having a host device and a communication module. The host device has a user interface configured to input and display information relating to the interfacing with the medical device. The communication module is locally coupled to the host device and configured to communicate wirelessly with the medical device. The system, implemented by the host device and the communication module, is configured to communicate with the medical device with functions. The system, implemented by at least one of the host device and the communication module, has a security condition. At least one of the functions is disabled, at least in part, from operating on the system based upon the security condition.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2011Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.Inventors: Javaid Masoud, William D. Patent number: 8561970Abstract: An aerator for aerating a liquid within a container having a main body portion and an opening. The aerator includes a pump assembly configured to provide an air flow, a cannulated shaft, and a manifold assembly configured to be fluidly coupled to the pump assembly by way of the cannulated shaft. The manifold assembly is configured to distribute the air flow to a plurality of radially arranged manifold nozzles, wherein the radially arranged manifold nozzles are configured to generate a plurality of air bubbles having a radial velocity configured to direct the plurality of air bubbles radially outward from the manifold assembly such that the plurality of air bubbles travel vertically upwards generally towards the opening of the container without generally contacting the main body portion of the container or the cannulated shaft. For example, the manifold assembly may be configured to generate the plurality of air bubbles having a radial velocity of 2.0 feet/second to 3.0 feet/second.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2013Date of Patent: October 22, 2013Assignee: Brookstone Purchasing, Inc.Inventors: Stephen B. Mills, Christopher M. Petersen
