Abstract: An overhead opening door lock device for use with existing types of door systems having horizontally hinged panels carried on rollers confined within channeled roller tracks is attached on the interior side of the door and fixes the door in position relative to the roller track. One leg of a U-shaped device is inserted in the hollow interior of a tube that serves as an articulation axis for a pair of hinged panels. The other leg of the U-shaped device penetrates a suitably positioned aperture in the web of the adjacent channeled roller track. A shear pin or padlock shank may be inserted through an aperture in a tip portion of the other leg that projects past the outside plane of the roller track web.

Abstract: A backup method relies on a single secondary storage device, such as a tape storage device, which emulates multiple secondary storage devices. The emulated secondary storage devices are coupled to data sources. Data which is received from the data sources is tagged with respective unique identifiers, interleaved and stored on a removable storage medium, such as a tape. This facilitates maximum usage of the media access bandwidth of the single secondary storage device.

Abstract: A tape drive unit has a data compression engine coupled to an incoming data stream. A buffer memory stores data of the incoming data stream. A control module enables or disables the data compression engine in response to a function of the data occupancy level of the buffer memory.

Abstract: Servlets within a web server maintain state information concerning requests made by users of the server. The servlets associate each user with an HTTP session object. The session object is configured to include information that identifies the last-N web pages requested by the user. Periodically, or in response to a triggering event, the server analyzes the contents of the session objects, for example by tabulating the frequency with which each web page has been requested in the recent past. From the results of the analysis, web-page caching priorities are determined, and the contents of the server's cache are altered accordingly.

Abstract: A limited-bandwidth network electronic data communication system (100) includes an electronic data transmission system (200) and a network terminal (300) in communication with the electronic data transmission system over a communications network (112). The electronic data transmission system includes a data receiver, a data formatter (218) and a data transmitter. The electronic data terminal includes a data receiver, a data reformatter and a data transmitter. Using the data transmitter an operator of the electronic data terminal transmits a request for transmission of an electronic message from the electronic data transmission system to the electronic data terminal. Upon receipt of the transmission request, the data formatter of the electronic data transmission system formats the electronic message in accordance with a default filtration parameter associated with the electronic data terminal, and assembles the electronic message as part of an electronic data package.

Abstract: Femtocell coverage can be extended across a coverage area by providing a cluster of femtocell access points (FAPs). Each FAP is independently registered with a core network and provisioned with a location area code common to each FAP. At hand-in from the macrocell network, an association is made between the mobile station and the hand-in FAP, which becomes an anchor FAP for the duration of the mobile station's presence within the cluster. Calls between the mobile station and the core network are routed via a servicing FAP of the cluster and the anchor FAP.

Abstract: An approach is provided for supporting integrated voice and data services over a common Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) device. The device includes a network interface that receives a call from a calling party device to a called party device. Also, the device has signaling conversion logic configured to convert between Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling and circuit-switched telephony signaling to support the call, wherein addressing information of the calling party device is preserved in the conversion. The called party device includes one of a telephone station and a SIP client. The device further includes a voice port coupled to the signaling conversion logic and configured to communicate selectively with the telephone station; and a data port configured to communicate selectively with the SIP client.

Abstract: A limited-bandwidth network electronic data communication server includes an electronic data transmission server and a network terminal in communication with the electronic data transmission server over a communications network. The electronic data transmission server includes a data receiver for receiving a request for transmission of an e-mail attachment to a network terminal over a communications network. The e-mail attachment includes content and data defining the presentation of the content. A data processing system is in communication with the data receiver for converting the e-mail attachment into a less memory-intensive data format. The data processing system is configured to perform the conversion by extracting the content from the e-mail attachment without the presentation data. A data transmitter is in communication with the data processing system for transmitting the extracted content to the network terminal over the communications network without the presentation data.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a fault tolerant vehicle dynamics control (VDC) is described. The system includes a fault tolerance module that receives an indication of a fault in at least one of the actuators of the VDC and selects a fault compensation mode to maintain the stability of the motor vehicle in light of the received fault indication. The fault tolerance module proceeds by diagnosing at least one fault in at least one of the actuators, selecting a fault compensation mode based on the detected at least one fault and the driving condition, and compensating for the at least one fault by optimally controlling remaining operable actuators according to the fault compensation mode.

Abstract: Techniques for customizing draw styles of widgets to better accommodate a user's direct manipulation needs. A user can customize various attributes of a widget and its manipulators to suit the user's needs. The customizations are stored as a style. The stored style can subsequently be applied to the widget to control the appearance and behavior of the widget. Stored styles may be applied to other widgets and can also be shared between users.

Abstract: A Trench gate MOS field-effect transistor having a narrow, lightly doped, region extending from a channel accommodating region (3) of same conductivity type immediately adjacent the trench sidewall. The narrow region may be self-aligned to the top of a lower polysilicon shield region in the trench or may extend the complete depth of the trench. The narrow region advantageously relaxes the manufacturing tolerances, which otherwise require close alignment of the upper polysilicon trench gate to the body-drain junction.

Abstract: A secure network resource access system facilitates network access by network terminals to network resources located behind an enterprise firewall, and comprises a proxy server and a polling server. The proxy server is located logically outside the enterprise firewall for receiving application data from the network terminals. The polling server is located logically behind the enterprise firewall, and is configured to poll the proxy server to initiate transmission of the received application data from the proxy server to the polling server, to receive application data and associated network resource data from the proxy server in response to the poll, and to direct the application data to one of the network resources in accordance with the associated network resource data.

Abstract: A shock absorbing interposer is positionable between a manually manipulatable handle and a faucet of a beverage dispenser for dispensing a beverage. The interposer includes a faucet adapter mechanism for interconnecting to a lever of the faucet and a handle adapter mechanism for interconnecting to the handle. A shock absorbing member is operatively connected to the faucet adapter mechanism and the handle adapter mechanism to dissipate excessive forces applied to the handle as the handle is moved between a first operative position and a second operative position in order to reduce the likelihood that such excessive forces will be exerted on the faucet and handle. A faucet assembly including a faucet, handle and shock absorbing interposer is also provided.

Abstract: An information sorting decision aid which aids a decisionmaker through the second stage of decision-making of choosing from a large variety of similar products through the use of a graphical preference mechanism together with locally executed recommendation and display logic. A novel combination of a user interface comprising several sliders with Rackham's hypothesis and with a novel weighted matching algorithm to rank products is presented. Each product or service is given a score based on how well its feature strengths match the needs of a user of a system of the invention as expressed by the positions of the sliders.

Abstract: A platform for attachment to a helmet having front chin strap mounting holes on opposite sides of the helmet has a center section adapted to support one or more items such as a headlamp or goggles. The platform also includes two side arms extending rearward from the center section and disposed along the opposite sides of the helmet when the platform is mounted on the helmet. The side arms of the platform are adjustable in length. The platform also includes a universal mounting plate for attachment to the platform center section and adapted to support either of two different types of night vision goggles. The platform may be mounted on different helmets having different front mounting hole configurations.

Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein are directed to a gesture enhanced game play system that includes a display subsystem, a sensor subsystem, and one or more computing subsystems. The display subsystem is configured to display images related to one or more games to be played on at least a first game playing surface. The images include a virtual game layout having a number of demarcations of at least one area associated with the play of the one or more games. The sensor subsystem is configured to detect at least one physical aspect of at least one game related piece when the game related piece is at least proximate the virtual game layout. The one or more computing subsystems communicatively coupled to the display subsystem to control the images displayed by the display subsystem. Additionally, one or more computing subsystems are communicatively coupled to the sensor subsystem to receive information indicative of the at least one physical aspect of the game related piece sensed by the sensor subsystem.
