  • Publication number: 20030093372
Abstract: Online commerce is often conducted in a network including buyer computers, seller computers, financial institution computers and a payment management computer, which provides payment management services to sellers. Payment management software makes use of a generic framework including Payment Instruction, Capture, Refund, Account and Batch data structures. The generic framework is extended to support transactions which conform to uncommon payment protocols, for example, by shipping the merchandise Collect On Delivery or COD. The Payment Instruction data structure is modified to include two seller-definable fields, each of which can be written with data required for the particular type of transaction being modeled. The Account data structure is modified to include a field for receiving data identifying the particular type of transaction being modeled..

  • Patent number: 6067580
Abstract: Distributed computing environment (DCE) remote procedure calls (RPCs) are integrated with an advisory work load manager (WLM) to provide a way to intelligently dispatch RPC requests among the available application server processes. The routing decisions are made dynamically (for each RPC) based on interactions between the location broker and an advisory work load manager. Furthermore, when the system contains multiple coupled processors (tightly coupled within a single frame, or loosely coupled within a computing complex, a local area network (LAN) configuration, a distributed computing environment (DCE) cell, etc.), the invention extends to balance the processing of RPC requests and the associated client sessions across the coupled systems. Once a session is assigned to a given process, the invention also supports performance monitoring and reporting, dynamic system resource allocation for the RPC requests, and potentially any other benefits that may be available through the specific work load manager (WLM).

  • Patent number: 5613155
Abstract: Logic for receiving client write requests, bundling them, and sending a reply back to the client(s) once the requests are committed to storage. The logic is included in an intermediate server which includes a write request module having a write bundling module included and a write reply module. A separate reply is sent for each of the individual client write requests. Out of order requests are handled by checking for a contiguous write having a lower file location (offset) than a current write request and placing that lower ordered offset request first in the bundle.

  • Patent number: 5535375
Abstract: A computer system manages files shared by first and second heterogeneous clients. The first client exhibits a first protocol such as SMB and the second client exhibits a second, different protocol such as NFS. A first protocol converter receives requests from the first client to create, read and update the files, and converts the requests to corresponding requests exhibiting a common protocol. A second protocol converter receives requests from the second client to create, read and update the files, and converts the requests to corresponding requests exhibiting the common protocol. A file manager is common to both clients and both protocol converters, receives the converted requests exhibiting the common protocol and executes the requests in a name space and data area which are both common to the first and second clients. The name space stores names of the files and the data area stores the files.
