    Abstract: Apparatus, particularly adapted to covering and protecting the ankles of off-road bicycle riders from injury, has an ankle-length sock made of elastic knitted fabric covering each of the rider's feet and a pair of bicycling shoes having low-cut uppers. A thin guard of a hard, flexible material passing around the rider's ankle is retained at the outside of each sock, extending from the top of the sock to a line proximate the top of the shoe upper so as to protect the inside and outside of the ankle joint.
