  • Patent number: 12128771
Abstract: A method for adjusting state of charge (SOC) limits aboard a motor vehicle having a propulsion battery pack includes receiving a pre-drive information set via a host computer and identifying, from the pre-drive information set, a probability that the motor vehicle is about to embark on a road trip. The road trip is a drive event in which the motor vehicle will travel outside of a predetermined area. The method further includes expanding the SOC limits of the propulsion battery pack when the motor vehicle is about to embark on the road trip, such that a total SOC window of the propulsion battery pack is increased for a duration of the road trip.

  • Publication number: 20240322570
Abstract: Preemptively charging rechargeable energy storage systems (RESSs) in advance of an electrical grid outage. The preemptive charging may include generating a weather map of a geographical area anticipated to be impacted with a storm or a natural event of a severity predicted to induce a power outage, which may include generating a distribution map of an electrical power distribution network within the geographical area, generating an outage map by overlaying the weather map relative to the distribution map to identify one or more intersections where the power outage is predicted, and scheduling or otherwise implementing preemptively charging of one or more the RESSs downstream of the intersections in advance of the power outage.

  • Publication number: 20240248147
Abstract: A method and system for estimating state of health (SOH) of a battery configured for providing electrical power to a motor for driving a vehicle. The method and system configured for measuring an enhanced SOH for the battery according to an enhanced SOH process. The enhanced SOH process including maximizing a discharge depth of the battery to maximize accuracy of the enhanced SOH measurement.

  • Publication number: 20240198852
Abstract: Presented are charging systems for provisioning vehicle grid integration (VGI) demand-response (DR) activities, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles with bidirectional charging and VGI DR capabilities. A method of controlling VGI operations for a host vehicle includes a resident/remote vehicle controller receiving user-specific data input by the host vehicle's operator and crowd-sourced data output by third-party vehicles deemed comparable to and located within a predefined region of the host vehicle. A predicted battery life of the battery pack resulting from the host vehicle performing VGI operations is estimated using a non-iterative, non-recursive closed-form battery life model based on the user-specific and crowd-sourced data.

  • Publication number: 20240092221
Abstract: A method for determining an optimal state-of-charge (SOC) operating window for a battery for use in an electric vehicle includes learning a pattern of periodic charging of the battery for a plurality of time periods and a pattern of periodic usage of the battery for the plurality of time periods, determining a periodic energy requirement for the battery for the plurality of time periods based on the learned patterns using a statistical model, and setting a maximum SOC level and a minimum SOC level for the SOC operating window based on two or more of the periodic energy requirement, the learned patterns and a battery chemistry of the battery.

  • Publication number: 20120316810
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for calibrating one or more limits of a battery of a vehicle, the battery having state of charge limits and power limits. A history of environmental conditions for the vehicle is obtained and stored in a memory. One or more of the state of charge limits, one or more of the power limits, or both are adjusted based on the history of environmental conditions and usage severity using a processor.
