Patent number: 9622060Abstract: Emergency reporting is described in which user input is received in an emergency call that is used to classify the call. Based on the classification process, emergency calls are processed to give priority to certain calls. The calls that are given the highest priority may be transmitted by a voice network and other calls may be transmitted by a data network. The reporting includes receiving user input identifying an emergency perspective of the user and selecting a data call based on the emergency perspective indicating the user is a bystander. It also includes recording an audio message from the user and transmitting the audio message to a public service answering point (PSAP) over a data network.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2013Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Christopher R. Wingert, Mary C. Hardy

Patent number: 9565171Abstract: A Digital Rights Management (DRM) system provides a lightweight layering of encryption and decryption of keys that allows efficient use of different cryptographic techniques to effect the secure delivery of multimedia content. Asymmetric cryptography, where a public key is used to encrypt information that can only be decrypted by a matched private key, is used by the DRM system to deliver symmetric keys securely.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2012Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Christopher R. Wingert, Pooja Aggarwal

Patent number: 8848920Abstract: The present invention encompasses an electronic device, such as a server, which may be operated in a communication system. The electronic device comprises a method for receiving a request from another electronic device to transmit keys, for example a mobile terminal. Responsive to the request, the server generates the required keys and determines a best time to send the keys to the mobile client device such that a new connection is not required just for sending the requested keys. The best time to send the keys may be during a scheduled connection for sending non-key data, for example a connection setup for transmitting system parameters, content data, etc. By sending the keys along with the non-key data, a need for a special connection is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2005Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Christopher R. Wingert

Publication number: 20140258801Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for mitigating interference in a wireless network to facilitate network performance. In an aspect, a method for transmitting wireless data packets is provided. The method includes receiving data packets from a wireless distribution network. The data packets are analyzed to determine if a subset of the data packets are to be suppressed in view of transmitter signal conditions and substituting null packets for the subset of data packets if the subset of data packets are determined to be suppressed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 20, 2014Publication date: September 11, 2014Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Gordon Kent WALKER, Bruce COLLINS, Christopher R. WINGERT, Jai N. SUBRAHMANYAM, Michael Mao WANG

Patent number: 8819421Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate digital rights management in a wireless communication environment. Generally, content (e.g., data files, video images, etc.) can be downloaded and maintained in its encrypted state to ensure protection of digital rights. Consequently, programming applications that utilize such content decrypt the content at the time of use (e.g., playback or access). A file interface can be provided that allows applications to access encrypted content utilizing a standardized file I/O interface. Decryption of content can be transparent to individual applications utilizing encrypted content. Therefore, modifications cryptographic algorithms or procedures and changes in key sizes need not affect the programming applications.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2007Date of Patent: August 26, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Maksim Krasnyanskiy, Christopher R. Wingert, Pooja Aggarwal

Publication number: 20130036442Abstract: A method and system for generating an image that displays a portion of a scene from a video that is being displayed on a first device, the image having at least one selectable item. When an item is selected, a menu may be displayed to allow a user to receive more information about the item. The method may include displaying the selectable image on a second device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2011Publication date: February 7, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Christopher R.
