  • Patent number: 8605021
Abstract: The invention relates to a display device and to a method of controlling a display device. A display device with a plurality of pixels arranged in rows n and columns m is presented so as to render possible an energy saving through charge sharing in the display device, in particular an active matrix display, in which the pixels can be activated via control lines (6), and with a row driver circuit (4) for driving the n rows with a row voltage (Vrow), wherein the rows of the display device can be consecutively selected from 1 to n, and with a column driver circuit (3) for driving the m columns with a column voltage (Vcol) corresponding to the picture data of the pixels (8) of the selected line to be displayed, and wherein it is provided for a transition from a selected row n to another row n+1 that the row voltage (Vrow) is connected to an intermediate voltage level (VZ), and the row n+1 is first connected to the intermediate voltage level (VZ) and subsequently is charged up to the required row voltage (Vrow).

  • Patent number: 8400435
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for controlling a display device which can be operated in a partial mode, the circuit arrangement including a row drive circuit for driving n rows of the display device and a column drive circuit for driving m columns of the display device. The row drive circuit controls the n rows of display device sequentially from 1 to n, and the column drive circuit supplies column voltages to the m columns. The column voltages corresponding to the picture data to be displayed of pixels of the controlled row. A logic function is connected in front of at least one output of the row drive circuit, and a first control signal is supplied to the logic function. The first control signal achieving a deactivation/activation of the at least one output of the row drive circuit in dependence on the partial mode of the display device.

  • Patent number: 7880704
Abstract: Method of driving a liquid crystal display by supplying selectable column voltages Gj(t) from a predetermined number of column voltages levels, selection signals to groups of mutually orthogonal p rows (p?1) for the duration of a row selection time p×nfrc during a supcrframe nfrc to generate grey scales. The column voltage is calculated depending on the grey scales of the p pixels in a column and on the mutually orthogonal selection signals Fi for the corresponding group of rows. The row selection time is subdivided in npwm sub selection time. The grey scales are coded in grey scale tables having nfrc phases with npwm. The superframes grey scales are generated using phase mixing. The change in the column voltage level defines a transition. The column voltage has always less transitions per row selection time than the number npwm of sub selection time of the row selection time.

  • Patent number: 7471272
Abstract: A display device (1) comprising: a liquid crystal display (2) having pixels (8) which are arranged in columns C and rows R; and a gate driving arrangement (4) for activating the pixels (8) of rows (R) in dependence on a row scanning scheme; a source driving arrangement (3) for providing column voltages representing the respective image data, a number of buffers (40) depending on the number of grey levels for supplying the respective voltage levels to the columns (C), a switching unit (31) for selecting a voltage level which corresponds to the grey level to be displayed; and a control unit (32) for controlling the buffers (40). For reducing the power consumption, an analyzing unit (39) is provided which analyzes the image data to be displayed such that the control unit (32) can determine the number of required buffers in dependence on the number of grey levels to be displayed and can switch off any unused buffers.

  • Patent number: 7113021
Abstract: The invention relates to a voltage processing unit comprising an integrated charge pump 11 for multiplying a voltage Vx applied to an input of the integrated charge pump 11 by a predetermined factor Xm. In order to enable a multiplication of an available voltage by a desired factor with a reduced required area for the integrated charge pump, it is proposed that the voltage processing unit further comprises an external voltage doubling circuit 12 for amplifying an available voltage Vdd and for applying the amplified voltage Vx to the input of the integrated charge pump 11. The invention relates equally to a corresponding method.
