Publication number: 20190307522Abstract: A medical instrument includes cable pairs respectively wound around input spindles and connected to actuate degrees of freedom of an instrument shaft structure. The cables may connect so that rotating the input spindles actuates corresponding degrees of freedom. First pulleys in the instrument may receive first cables from the input spindles and redirect the first cables toward the instrument shaft, and second pulleys may receive second cables from the input spindles and redirect the second cables toward the instrument shaft. In one configuration, the first and second pulleys are respectively mounted at first and second levels, and the second pulleys redirect the second cables through the first level. Additionally or alternatively, one level of cables may cross while the other level of cables does not.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2017Publication date: October 10, 2019Applicant: Intuitive Surgical Operations, Inc.Inventors: Bram Gilbert Antoon LAMBRECHT, Christopher S. Publication number: 20190000494Abstract: A medical device includes a lever with an applied force position, a load position, and a fulcrum position. A first cable extends from the applied force position of the lever to a first capstan, the first cable wrapping around the first capstan. A second cable extends from the applied force position of the lever to a second capstan, the second cable wrapping around the second capstan. A rod couples the load position of the lever and a surgical end effector. The first and second capstans may be fixed to an axle. The axle may receive a rotational input from a rotary actuator. A hand wheel may be coupled to the axle. There may be a spring between a support structure and the lever to bias the lever to rotate about the fulcrum position of the lever.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2018Publication date: January 3, 2019Applicant: Intuitive Surgical Operations, Inc.Inventors: Christopher S. Patent number: 9295575Abstract: This invention provides new above knee (AK) and below the knee (BK) orthotic devices and implements specific manufacturing processes for the production of orthotic devices through the automated, computer controlled bi-axial and tri-axial braiding of orthotic devices, over a mold or mandrel made of carved foam, plaster material or wax that is a replica of the patient's limb, and is created by a Computer Aided Design (CAD) file controlling a Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine tool. This method of manufacture using aerospace fibers such as graphite or Kevlar, and high performance resins, is used to create a orthotic device which is stronger and lighter weight than conventionally manufactured orthotic devices. Braiding also allows incorporation of woven cloth, tapes and other reinforcements into the braiding process for added strength at selected areas. The method dramatically decreases the production time and cost of the relative to conventional methods.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2013Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: Mentis Sciences, Inc.Inventors: John J. Patent number: 9283660Abstract: The present invention relates to standardizing the manufacture above-the-knee (AK) and below-the-knee (BK) prosthetic sockets and attached hardware using specially designs alignment jigs that can record position of components, with micro-encoders embedded in the jig, to quantify various degrees of freedom (rotations and translations) during integration of a temporary check socket or prosthesis. These records, together with a digital record of the shape of the truncated limb, in the form of a CAD file, can provide a complete digital record or “prescription” of the prosthesis. The digital record is then transferable to a central fabrication facility which uses a jig augmented with motors, drives systems, and encoders to robotically position and align fixtures and clamps to streamline integration and production of the prosthesis in a standardized manner.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2013Date of Patent: March 15, 2016Assignee: Mentis Sciences, IncInventors: John J. Patent number: 6717684Abstract: A device for target scoring includes an elongated retro-reflective member, a first light source, a second light source, a first light sensor, a second light sensor and a processor. The first light source is disposed at a first location and is spaced apart from the retro-reflective member. The first light source is also positioned so as to be able to direct a first beam of light toward the retro-reflective member. The second light source is disposed at a second location spaced apart from both the retro-reflective member and from the first light source. The second light source is also positioned so as to be able to direct a second beam of light toward the retro-reflective member so that the second beam of light intersects the first beam of light over an area so as to define a target area. The first light sensor is disposed adjacent the first light source and is positioned so as to be able to receive light from the first light source that has been reflected from the retro-reflective member.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2000Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Assignee: Dynetics, Inc.Inventors: Joseph W. Patent number: RE38463Abstract: A remote-controlled motor-driven drum is provided to wind and unwind a cord which holds a self-balancing sign carrier. The sign carrier, which has telescoping rails, is adjustable in width. Its center rail includes two sheaves to receive the cord and lead it from the drum back to an end secured to the ceiling. Thus, rotation of the drum serves to raise and lower the sign carrier and a sign carried by it. The sheaves on the carrier not only allow it to be raised and lowered, but also serve to make the unit self-balancing The user attaches a sign to the carrier when it is in its lowered position and then raises the sign and carrier to the ceiling. The motor, which is reversible, is remotely controlled either by wires leading between the motor and a switch or by radio control (with a control similar to that used on a garage door).Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1998Date of Patent: March 16, 2004Assignees: Mechtronics CorporationInventors: Christopher S.
