Abstract: System and method for registering a product on behalf of a purchaser who purchases a product from a vendor using a financial instrument such as a credit card. In one embodiment, the system collects product information at a point of sale. The system collects purchaser information from the financial institution that issued the instrument to the purchaser. The collected purchase and purchaser information are then forwarded to the manufacturer or its authorized agent for registration, e.g., to facilitate development of cross-selling opportunities, to activate a manufacturer'warranty or to obtain a rebate, upgrades or recall information and transmitting information to the purchaser confirming the product registration.
