  • Patent number: 5207943
Abstract: An oxygen-absorbing composition for absorbing oxygen from an enclosure, such as a package, containing a low-moisture product having an equilibrium relative humidity, or water activity, of between 30% and 90% including in relatively sufficient proportions for absorbing oxygen in the container, particles of iron, particles of a solid electrolyte material, and particles of hydrogel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 7, 1991
Date of Patent: May 4, 1993
    Assignee: Multiform Desiccants, Inc.
Inventors: John S. Cullen, George E. McKedy, Christopher S. Nigon, Thomas H. Powers
  • Patent number: 5186775
Abstract: A method of attaching a membrane across an opening of an annular deformable wall including the steps of placing a disc across the opening with the disc extending outwardly beyond the wall, and deforming the outer edge of the disc and the wall simultaneously by applying heat and pressure thereto to fuse the outer edge of the disc onto the wall.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 4, 1991
Date of Patent: February 16, 1993
Inventors: John S. Cullen, Samuel A. Incorvia, Christopher S. Nigon, Frederick A. Boczkowski
  • Patent number: 5148337
Abstract: A combined controlled rate adsorbent and disc drive stabilizing unit in the shape of a computer disc including an adsorbent of planar shape, a casing of porous material having a predetermined water vapor transmission rate encasing the adsorbent for prolonging the water vapor adsorption time of the adsorbent, and a self-sustaining jacket on the casing of a shape for installation into a computer disc drive during transit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 20, 1990
Date of Patent: September 15, 1992
    Assignee: Multiform Desiccants, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5009308
Abstract: A controlled rate adsorbent unit including an adsorbent and a heat-shrunk casing of porous material having a predetermined water vapor transmission rate encasing the adsorbent for prolonging the water vapor adsorption time of the adsorbent. The controlled rate adsorbent unit may be in the shape of a recording disc or it may be in the shape of a three-dimensional solid with the heat-shrunk casing stretched tightly thereover. A method of fabricating a controlled rate adsorbent unit including the steps of providing an adsorbent material, heating the adsorbent material to dry off moisture therefrom, providing a porous material having a controlled water vapor transmission rate, sealing the adsorbent material in a casing of the porous material, heat-shrinking the porous material about the adsorbent, and storing the sealed adsorbent material in a moisture barrier package.

    Assignee: Multiform Desiccants, Inc.
Inventors: John S. Cullen, Samuel A. Incorvia, Christopher S. Nigon, Nicholas E. Vaylen
  • Patent number: 5005763
Abstract: A container for material such as desiccant, adsorbent, absorbent or the like, including a molded shell made of high density polyethylene having a cylindrical side wall and an end wall and an open end, and a permeable membrane closing the open end by extending over onto the edge of the side wall and being deformed therewith and fused thereto into a frustoconical shape. A method of attaching a membrane across an opening of an annular deformable wall including the steps of placing a disc across the opening with the disc extending outwardly beyond the wall, and deforming the outer edge of the disc and the wall simultaneously by applying heat and pressure thereto to fuse the outer edge of the disc onto the wall. A container having a shell of the above-described type wherein the permeable membrane is secured to the end of the cylindrical side wall, and the overhanging portion of the membrane is sealed to the adjacent edge of the side wall which is deformed into a frustoconical shape.
