    Abstract: An annular combustion chamber for a gas turbine engine is provided with a plurality of fuel injection nozzles at its upstream end to direct swirled flows of fuel and air into the chamber. Ports in the combustion chamber walls direct air into the combustion chamber to oppose the swirling fuel and air flows from the fuel injection nozzles to achieve better fuel and air mixing.

    Abstract: A gas turbine engine combustor comprises a combustion chamber the walls of which have a plurality of holes extending therethrough for the flow of cooling air into the interior of the chamber. The holes are so configured and arranged that cooling air is exhausted from them in a flow direction which is normal or oblique to the general direction of gas flow through the chamber and oblique to the portion of the chamber wall local thereto.
