    Abstract: A communications network allows radio communication to be established within radio frequency (RF) shielding structures, such as a ship. The network is compatible with existing handheld radios and can interoperate with existing land mobile radio (LMR) systems. The network includes a plurality of communications extenders configured to form an ad hoc mesh network for propagating voice data. The communications extenders are battery-powered and have a form factor to allow rapid deployment and reconfiguration of the network.

    Abstract: A system and method of connecting a first radio system and a second radio system are disclosed. In one example, the method includes receiving audio data and identification data from a first user radio in a first radio talkgroup of the first radio system, transferring the audio data and the identification data to a connect unit, selecting a second talkgroup in the second radio system based on a predetermined talkgroup mapping, transferring the audio data and the identification data from the connect unit to the second radio system, and transmitting the audio data and the identification data to a second user radio in the second talkgroup of the second radio system.
