  • Publication number: 20190216389
Abstract: Evaluating Electroencephalogram (EEG) data includes receiving initial EEG signals for a patient being subjected to an anesthetic agent to minimize a response to surgical stimulation; based on a similarity between the initial EEC signals and a corpus of historical EEG signals, identifying a reference series of EEG signals, wherein the reference series of EEG signals comprises a time-ordered sequence of expected EEG signals for the patient; receiving a subsequent EEG signal for the patient after a change to a level of the anesthetic agent has occurred; and displaying a difference between the subsequent EEG signal and a one of the expected EEG signals, wherein the difference is indicative of a probability that the patient will respond to surgical stimulation.

  • Patent number: 9770205
Abstract: Providing an indication of a state of awareness for a patient includes arranging data of an EEG power spectrogram to provide power versus frequency in a log-log arrangement; calculating a first best-fit line for a lower frequency region of the EEG power spectrogram, using a processor; and calculating a second best-fit line for a higher frequency region of the EEG power spectrogram. Also, a display device is used to display a density spectral array of the spectrogram using a display scale that ranges between an upper limit and a lower limit, wherein the lower limit is set based on one of the first best-fit line and the second best-fit line.

  • Publication number: 20130324879
Abstract: A method for providing an indication of a state of awareness for a patient, includes the steps of arranging data of an EEG and EMG power spectrogram to provide power versus frequency in a log-log arrangement; calculating a first best-fit line for a lower frequency region of the EEG power spectrogram; calculating at least a second best-fit line for a higher frequency region of the EEG power spectrogram. The display of these lines is augmented by displaying a template that identifies different regions on the display that help confirm the state of the patient. Secondly, the time domain EEG signals can be filtered and displayed such that different frequency bands can be simultaneously displayed or a single frequency band can be displayed according to different time scales.

  • Publication number: 20130253362
Abstract: A system and method is used for determining from EEG signals the lack of awareness and the depth of anesthesia of a patient to whom an anesthetic agent is being administered. In particular, a log-log representation of the EEG power spectrum of a current patient is compared to another log-log spectrum of a patient in a known condition. By comparison the awareness or depth of anesthesia of the current patient can be determined. The reference spectrum can be an average spectrum of many patients or a previously acquired spectrum of the current patient, or any other spectrum that can be statistically correlated with the current patient's spectrum.

  • Patent number: 7720531
Abstract: A system and method determines from EEG signals the lack of awareness and the depth of anesthesia of a patient to whom an anesthetic agent is being administered. In particular, a log-log representation of the EEG power spectrum is converted to two intersecting lines so that the intersection point and the relative slopes can be analyzed to determine a state of awareness of a patient. This system and method may also be used in an analysis of the brain function of a sleeping individual to distinguish between different levels of non-REM sleep, REM sleep, and awakeness.
