  • Patent number: 4935453
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the catalyzed reaction of an isocyanate and an active hydrogen compound wherein the reaction is conducted in the presence of a novel catalyst comprising the salt of 1,8-diazo-bicyclo(5.4.0)undec-7-ene and a keto-enol of the formula ##STR1## where R is a non-acid containing cyclic residue. Preferred catalyzed reaction mixtures comprise Reaction Injection Molding urethanes (RIM). The novel catalyst salts provide a controlled induction period prior to the onset of gelation of the reaction mixture while providing complete cure of the reaction mixture thereafter.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 1988
Date of Patent: June 19, 1990
    Assignee: Ashland Oil, Inc.
Inventors: Robert S. Bock, Timothy A. Tufts, Christopher T. Moss
  • Patent number: 4880846

  • Patent number: 4880845
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an isocyanate-functional composition useful for forming a coating, adhesive, elastomer, or like article. Cure of the composition preferably involves trimerization of the isocyanate groups in the presence of an amino catalyst including a tertiary amine, an amine salt, and quaternary ammonium salts. The novel catalyst system used in achieving cure of the isocyanate-functional compound-containing liquid curable composition comprises an amino catalyst and an ortho-carboxylic acid ester.

  • Patent number: 4755321
Abstract: Disclosed is a storage stable blend of a long chain polyol and a short chain glycol wherein the glycol is present in an amount whereby the glycol and polyol form an incompatible blend. The blend is rendered storage stable by the addition of a compatibilizing amount of a salt wherein the salt is formed from a metal having a charge density of from about 1.25 to about 1.45.
